Historia
It’s the year is 2067, and the world has been ravaged by pandemics. The population has dwindled, and fertile women are a rare and valuable commodity. In hopes of preserving our species, the United States has passed the Fertility Act, forcing all women to be screened. Participation in the program is supposed to be straight forward. Three years, one baby, then freedom. But as Ara navigates the complex and invasive procedures within the program, she’s plagued by questions. Is the government really looking out for the good of the people, or do they have hidden motives?

The pacing was painfully slow
Revisado: 06-03-24
This was a great premise, and there were a lot of great ideas in the story, but there is so much fluff - so much “this this this” happened, so much that could’ve been taken out so that all that remained was the actual story. it’s a good idea executed with mediocrity. There were a few places in the narration that were repeated (editing) which doesn’t really bother me but I figured if I was going to review, the author would want to know this. Again, good premise but it’s not quite there.

An exceptional fantasy
Revisado: 04-10-24
Everything about this story was good and the narration was fantastic. The world building was interesting and original, the love story side plot was heartbreaking, and both our main characters were moral, smart,, and fierce at the same time. You don’t often find smart characters these days - books are filled with self-righteous stupid people- but these two did everything right. Which isn’t to say they got it all right, but mistakes were learning experiences. Completely refreshing and five stars all the way around. I can count on two hands the number of books that make me want to continue a series, but just a few chapters in to book 2 and I already know I’ll be sad when it’s over.

Historia
The Catenan Republic—the Hierarchy—may rule the world now, but they do not know everything. I tell them my name is Vis Telimus. I tell them I was orphaned after a tragic accident three years ago, and that good fortune alone has led to my acceptance into their most prestigious school. I tell them that once I graduate, I will gladly join the rest of civilized society in allowing my strength, my drive, and my focus—what they call Will—to be leeched away and added to the power of those above me, as millions already do. As all must eventually do.

The first group are all astronauts, about to leave Earth on a one-way interstellar colonization mission. Poorly written agenda piece
Revisado: 10-30-23
The story could have been good but it’s nothing more than a human-hating political agenda piece written by somebody who clearly has no original ideas of their own, because it’s just copied from propaganda spewed by governments all over the world. 5 hours of agonizing eye rolling.

Revisado: 09-19-23
The premise was great. I liked the action, but I’m so sick of relationship politics in books and how it’s all shoved into the story for “reasons”, I just got frustrated. The writing is good though. I’m just not interested in the relationship politics. Perhaps others are and this is their kind of story. If that’s the case, I would recommend.

It was good but
Revisado: 01-20-23
But I have to be honest—I’m far more interested in Darlington than Alex and he was mostly missing in this sequel. I find Trip to be the most interesting of the side characters. Mercy was good too. The rest of them... meh. I didn’t connect.
It’s definitely not a bad book, but not a fav either. I know it’s a book about elites, and maybe it’s just bad timing as far as the current political climate goes, but Yale is not intriguing in this book the way it was in the last. I feel like it’s kind of... evil. Both in the book and in real life, considering a lot of the people currently messing up the planet actually went to school there.
Probably gonna stop listening here. Again, not a bad book, I’ve just lost interest.

Enjoyable and interesting
Revisado: 10-10-22
Really great storytelling. I hope there is a book 2 - unique and fresh concept for first contact. Finally someone in ‘science fiction’ with an original idea. EDIT: I would like to add that this book is not preachy. I'm pretty conservative, also a scientist, and don't go along with 'the narrative' about the environment. There are some parts where the CHARACTERS are trying to get across some environmental ideas (blaming humans for fill in the blank..). But it's speculative fiction based in some other future - so this story isn't talking about 'our world'. It's some other world. Maybe it's our future world but it didn't look much like our present world at all to me. So if you have a hard time separating the author's views and the character's views, you might find it preachy. But it didn't bother me.
So many interesting ideas if you can just allow yourself to enjoy the story without forcing it to make a statement.

Historia
Will Meadows is a seemingly average 15-year-old Westie who lives and works in Zone F, the run-down outermost ring of the Corporation. In the future state of the Corp, a person’s value comes down to productivity: the right actions win Units; the wrong ones lose them. If Will is unlucky and goes into Unit debt, there’s only one place to go: the Rator. But for Zone F Breeders, things are much worse - they’re born into debt. Every day in Zone F is a struggle, especially for Will who is fighting against time for access to an illegal medical drug, Crystal 8.

Literally made no sense
Revisado: 07-17-21
I feel like a 12-year-old wrote this and no one checked it for plot holes and stupidity. I’ve never seen a cast of characters do so many stupid things in one book. And whoever’s idea it was to have the dull, emotionless narration didn’t think about how awful it would be to listen to.
Will is so smart and sneaky in the beginning, he can steal a gold watch from the security checkpoint officer but too dumb to know he shouldn’t wear black jeans to the wall.
Will has no personal opinion. He is a literal sheep.
Alex has no purpose, Rob has no purpose, in fact, none of these characters have a purpose.
This story just literally made no sense.
Here’s one more example- the grandma is gonna save baby Wiil so she jumps out a window (with the baby) breaks her leg, but gets away, baby is fine, and makes all the way to the wall.
Ok. Sure.
They are hiding from the Corp but they do all these illegal things like keep a goat. Animals are illegal and you’re pumping your granddaughter full of illegal hormones to turn her into a boy so she wont have to be a breeder. But let’s have a GOAT in the backyard. That’s not gonna draw attention to us. Totally makes sense.
