Historia
Stanley Kubrick, the director of a string of timeless movies from Lolita and Dr. Strangelove to A Clockwork Orange, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Full Metal Jacket, and others, has always been depicted by the media as the Howard Hughes of filmmakers, a weird artist obsessed with his work and privacy to the point of madness. But who was he really?

Wonderful bio of Kubrick
Revisado: 04-04-20
Wonderful bio of Stanley Kubrick from an employee who loved him and who was loved by Stanley. Only complaint is performer. Something about the way he puts emotion into his voice is not pleasant to the ear. Maybe it’s just his voice. But don’t let that stop you buying this book. The film S is for STANLEY is essentially this book. But the book has more stories. The film is good I’m glad to have both.

Six months after the blood-soaked conclusion of Moscow Rules, Allon is in Umbria, trying to resume his honeymoon with his new wife, Chiara, when a colleague pays him a shocking visit. The man who saved Allon's life in Moscow and was then resettled in England has vanished without a trace. British intelligence is sure he was a double agent all along, and they blame Allon for planting him.

Moscow Rules and The Defector are Silva at his best
Revisado: 07-06-17
Two separate books equal one great Gabriel Allon tale. Each book can stand alone. But do yourself a favor and read them back to back. Up til now I thought nothing could rate as highly with me as A Death in Vienna. These two books taken together are every bit as excellent as "Vienna" and in completely different ways. No spoilers. Just trust me. If you enjoy Gabriel Allon books, I believe you'll find these three are the best of this excellent series
A note about the narrator. I find Phil Gigante's style, voice and accents far superior to that of George Guidall. Guidall's Allon sounds like a very old Shamrone. Indeed, regarding all the characters at times it's difficult to tell one voice from another. Odd since normally I like Mr Giudall reading absolutely any other books except this series. However, his narration has not stopped me buying any book in the series. Not terrible at all-just not my favorite of the two men. I have listened to several narrations by Phil Gigante of various authors/books and have never been disappointed. This is my personal preference. I see by other reviews many people prefer just the opposite!

Historia
Sent to Vienna to authenticate a painting, the art restorer and sometime spy Gabriel Allon is sidetracked by a photograph that throws his world upside-down. Could it really be the face of a man who during the last days of World War II had brutalized his mother on the Death March from Auschwitz?

Love these books

This one concerns the Shoa and is beautifully done. Wounds are healed by Allon that he never knew existed. Only minor problem is narrator It's difficult to distinguish who's speaking at times because his accent - tone hardly changes from character to character. Still, an excellent book well worth a listen.

Historia
"Dog days and the fresh bodies are arriving once again." So begins the fall term at South Carolina Medical College, where Dr. Jacob Thacker is on probation for Xanax abuse. His interim career - working public relations for the dean - takes an unnerving detour into the past when the bones of African American slaves, over a century old, are unearthed on the campus. Out of the college’s dark past, these bones threaten to rise and condemn the present.

Liked this one BETTER than the first, Syndrome E. That was a good intro to the two main characters. Bred To Kill moves at a faster pace and the plot is more interesting by far. Hope there are more to come with these characters.

Not quite as good as The Redbreast and The Devil's Star but well worth the time and money. Doesn't keep you as on the edge as those two. But comes close! The narrator isn't up to Robin Sachs caliber but he doesn't do harm to the listening of the book. This is another great book by Jo Nesbo. He really is something special

Historia
A young woman is murdered in her Oslo flat. One finger has been severed from her left hand, and behind her eyelid is secreted a tiny red diamond in the shape of a five-pointed star - a pentagram, the devil’s star. Detective Harry Hole is assigned to the case with his long-time adversary Tom Waaler and initially wants no part in it. But Harry is already on notice to quit the force and is left with little alternative but to drag himself out of his alcoholic stupor and get to work. A wave of similar murders is on the horizon....

This one may even surpass The Redbreast. Disappointed when no resolution to a key murder in Redbreast not resolved in Nemesis. It is resolved here and then some!

It is 1944: Daniel, a soldier, legendary among the Norwegians fighting the advance of Bolshevism on the Russian front, is killed. Two years later, a wounded soldier wakes up in a Vienna hospital. He becomes involved with a young nurse, the consequences of which will ripple forward to the turn of the next century. In 1999, Harry Hole, alone again after having caused an embarrassment in the line of duty, has been promoted to inspector and is lumbered with surveillance duties. He is assigned the task of monitoring neo-Nazi activities....
