Historia
The galaxy is doomed. Monkeys may be clever and too stubborn to give up, but Skippy The Idiot Who Got Played knows the harsh truth: this is a fight he can’t win. The odds are not only stacked against him, he was designed not to win this fight. Maybe he can salvage some faint memory of the civilizations that inhabit the galaxy, but those beings are doomed. Doomed. Including the Merry Band of Pirates.

Enjoyed the ending
Revisado: 06-09-23
Really enjoyed the resolution at the end. After reading/listening this far in the series, I wasn’t going to miss the end. However, this book was tedious for me to get through. There were an excessive amount of redundant insider jokes used as filler and random asides that added nothing to the story, slowing it down. The endless repetition of thought processes and patterns established in earlier books, made me lose interest. I had to shelve and come back to this several times.
Minor spoiler:
One of my favorite characters was killed—I really wanted “them” to live. Though it added suspense and drama to the ending, I was disappointed that Alanson didn’t find another way to do that, especially after being so creative with “crazy shit” in the earlier books.

Almost didn’t finish
Revisado: 04-11-23
Where to start. Books 1 and 2 were okay. 3 and 4, I could have done without. The women are characterized as sex-crazed idiots, especially Abby in the later books. The repetition of concepts over and over in the internal monologues of the MCs was obvious filler to increase the length of the books. Also, there were gaffs in the writing such as having alien military members often calling their superior officers “boss,” like that’s common phrasing on another planet. I only stuck with it because the overarching story line was interesting and the steamy parts were very steamy.
Narrators voices were good for the main characters, but I had to set Jillian Macie’s parts to 1.5X because she read so slowly. Again, I wondered if the audio was purposefully slowed down to increase the length of the books. For the male parts narrated by Todd McLaren, the main characters sounded fine, but all additional male characters had the same voice, and not a good one.

Our universe is but a snow globe—an experiment born of desperation and hope. The true universe is unfathomably vast, teeming with life and untold wonders. And, it is enslaved. Created by ancient aliens in a daring gambit to understand the nature of the enemy, humanity is now asked to be the savior of a universe not their own. LOVE LOVE LOVE
Revisado: 02-24-23
I haven’t liked a series this much ever. I actually read, while listening, to this and the earlier books all the way through TWICE—unheard of for me! Pyper Down’s performance is six out of five stars! Her voice for Caleb is so spot on; I actually imagine it’s a male saying those lines. I have dreams about that voice. And, Jennsen couldn’t have written Caleb or Alex any better. The series has everything you want, deep rich characters, adventure, suspense, intrigue, sex, love, spaceships, aliens, politics, rich world-building galore, friendship, family relationships, war, space battles, and surprises that I won’t spoil!

How do I love them even more?!
Revisado: 08-14-22
Such intellectual, creative brilliance is hard to imagine, but Jennsen inexorably dishes it out to us lowly humans, one word, one sentence, one book at a time. This series just gets better and better.
I’m on my second reading—er, listening—and I rarely read, listen to, or watch anything twice. So, this is high praise!
Pyper Down’s narration for this series is in the top five of the 100+ audio books I’ve listened to. She does the voices and accents of the characters so well, I forget it’s only one person reading. “Pyper” disappears and the characters and story take over.
P.S. I’m so glad Caleb got some major attention in this trilogy. I’m in love—shhh, don’t tell my husband!

Great but too short

As great as we expect from Taylor, after reading the Bobiverse series, but not long enough to satisfy. We need more. This story is a stub.

Very Important Read for any parent of an ADHD child
Revisado: 08-22-20
This book *really* helped me. After reading this, I’ve come to terms with what ADHD is and how it affects my son. I now have insight into his unique issues, and what I can do about them. Understanding why he is this way, and how I can influence the direction of his life from this point, has and will continue to change our lives. I have put guilt, blame, and grief away, and now I’m ready for action.
Having an idea of what to expect for his future is eye opening, and has given me fuel to reimagine what our future will look like.
The collection of research findings in this book is immense and summarized at just the right level. I am so thankful Barkley spent the time to learn all this, and to attempt to teach the rest of us!
I read the third edition, and I’m thinking of getting the fourth edition too. Based on this book, I expect the new version will have updated findings and research conclusions not yet known when the third edition was written.
Russel Barkley, I can’t thank you enough!
