Historia
Every day without fail, Travis Devine puts on a cheap suit, grabs his faux-leather briefcase, and boards the 6:20 commuter train to Manhattan, where he works as an entry-level analyst at the city’s most prestigious investment firm. In the mornings, he gazes out the train window at the lavish homes of the uberwealthy, dreaming about joining their ranks. In the evenings, he listens to the fiscal news on his phone, already preparing for the next grueling day in the cutthroat realm of finance. Then one morning Devine’s tedious routine is shattered by an anonymous email: She is dead.

Virtue signaling and a ridiculously woke ending.
Revisado: 12-07-24
If you like politically correct virtue signaling by characters who jump into bed with anything that has a pulse, you’ll love this book. Don’t forget to ice the woke cake with mean, judgmental, pro-life, anti-trans Christians. Ridiculously cardboard characters and, in the end, an absolutely absurd plot. Oh how I wish I could un-listen to this book.

Historia
In the winter of 1811, the war seems lost. Spain has fallen to the French, except for Cadiz, now the Spanish capital and itself under siege. Inside the city walls an intricate diplomatic dance is taking place and Richard Sharpe faces more than one enemy. The small British force is trapped by a French army, and their only hope lies with the outnumbered redcoats outside refusing to admit defeat. There, in the sweltering horror of Barrosa, Sharpe will meet his old enemy Colonel Vandal once again.

My #1 favorite classic
Revisado: 05-16-22
I think I’ve read the “Pride and Prejudice” hardback at least six times and listened to this audible version just as many! I never get tired of it and learn something new with every reading! For avid pride and prejudice readers, I highly recommend the Fitzwilliam Darcy series, by Pamela Aiden which starts with the novel “An assembly such as this!” A terrific complement to the original story! I believe Ms. Austin would be delighted to read the same story from Mr Darcy’s perspective as was I!

I was disappointed with how far from historical reality the storyline strayed. it was a good fictional story, but I was really expecting his historical fiction. it would seem only the characters were particularly historical.

Historia
Many of us know the Black Death as a catastrophic event of the medieval world. But the Black Death was arguably the most significant event in Western history, profoundly affecting every aspect of human life, from the economic and social to the political, religious, and cultural. In its wake the plague left a world that was utterly changed, forever altering the traditional structure of European societies and forcing a rethinking of every single system of Western civilization: food production and trade, the church, political institutions, law, art, and more.

Wonderful!
Revisado: 10-22-20
I thoroughly enjoyed hearing Mr. Darcy’s point of view! My favorite character is his valet, Fletcher, who adds a great deal of wit and humor to the story! Not crazy about the reader/narrator as he has an effeminate voice… Would’ve preferred a deeper voice as I would expect Mr. Darcy’s to be.

Historia
Black Americans have long been shackled to the Democrats. Seeing no viable alternative, they have watched liberal politicians take the Black vote for granted without pledging anything in return. In Blackout, Owens argues that this automatic allegiance is both illogical and unearned. She contends that the Democrat Party has a long history of racism and exposes the ideals that hinder the Black community’s ability to rise above poverty, live independent and successful lives, and be an active part of the American dream.

Historia
Pulitzer Prize winner Ron Chernow returns with a sweeping and dramatic portrait of one of our most compelling generals and presidents, Ulysses S. Grant. Ulysses S. Grant's life has typically been misunderstood. All too often he is caricatured as a chronic loser and an inept businessman, or as the triumphant but brutal Union general of the Civil War. But these stereotypes don't come close to capturing him, as Chernow shows in his masterful biography, the first to provide a complete understanding of the general and president whose fortunes rose and fell with dizzying speed and frequency.
