Historia
Eighteen-year-old Stella Sandell stands accused of the brutal murder of a man almost 15 years her senior. She is an ordinary teenager from an upstanding local family. What reason could she have to know a shady businessman, let alone to kill him? Stella’s father, a pastor, and mother, a criminal defense attorney, find their moral compasses tested as they defend their daughter, while struggling to understand why she is a suspect.

Repetitive
Revisado: 04-25-25
I am usually not a fan of legal thrillers but this one was actually pretty good. It was told from different perspectives and time frames. It is also repetitive because of this. I found the story to move slowly too. I was impressed with the translation- very smooth and I didn’t feel as if anything was missing. I had the who figured out fairly quickly so the “thriller” part of this legal thriller was anticlimactic for me.

Gabriel Ferrara is tall and handsome, and most days she wants to stab her eyes out with a pencil, anything to stop her seeing his perfection. How any female could work in these conditions and not be completely besotted with him is beyond her. Then he opens his mouth and she remembers why. He's bossy and sarcastic, with a wit so sharp it could cut glass. Every weekend is the same . . . while he's off living his dream life, she's counting down the days until Monday when she sees him again.

Just OK
Revisado: 04-23-25
What I liked about this book was CJ Bloom’s narration of Grace Porter. Wonderful work. The banter between the characters of Grace and Gabriel was on spot.
What I didn’t care for were the “love” scenes (and that is putting it mildly), the sexy talk seemed forced, and Gabriel’s character. He is such a chauvinistic arse. He rants and raves at the most insane moments. Kudos for stepping up but I grew tired of him.

Historia
In Jason Mott’s Hell of a Book, a Black author sets out on a cross-country publicity tour to promote his bestselling novel. That storyline drives Hell of a Book and is the scaffolding of something much larger and more urgent: Mott’s novel also tells the story of Soot, a young Black boy living in a rural town in the recent past, and The Kid, a possibly imaginary child who appears to the author on his tour.

very profound, lost in translation?

Good
Revisado: 04-19-25
I definitely suggest reading these in order as they do build on one another. Once again, I believe the translation is spot on because I didn’t feel as if I was missing anything and no awkwardness. I like this series because of its calmness and simplicity. The first two are so good and almost spiritual. However, the third one didn’t resonate with me like the other two did.

Family Will be There for You
Revisado: 04-19-25
Not sure what to think about this one. . . I like that strong friendships and family relationships were stressed throughout the book. Plus, abusive relationships happen at all ages. I don’t think that’s talked about enough. So kudos to the author for that. It was a bit heavy on the sex scenes for a YA novel in my opinion (I felt like every other chapter had a strong scene in the beginning of the book). Not to mention that the characters talked about how innocent and inexperienced they were but sure did have some interesting moments. Nice twist in the end. I called the “who” early on in the story but that was okay. Trying to think like a YA, I would give this one 3-4 stars. As an adult, 2-3 stars, there’s way too much teenage stuff going on within the pages to be an adult crossover. Maybe the author tried too hard with the sex scenes thinking it would appeal more to adults? I don’t know. . .

Mature YA/Adult crossover that covers every emotion. My only regret is that Morgan never gets the answers she deserved because she decided she didn’t need them in the end.

Historia
In this intimate and open account—nothing like any rock-and-roll memoir you’ve ever read—Alex Van Halen shares his personal story of family, friendship, music and brotherly love in a remarkable tribute to his beloved brother and band mate. In his rough yet sweet voice, Alex recounts the brothers’ childhood, first in the Netherlands and then in working class Pasadena, California, with an itinerant musician father and a very proper Indonesian-born mother.

Good but not enough to Insist Others Read
Revisado: 04-16-25
While this was an interesting story, I would not call it a thriller. Maybe something was lost in the translation? I’m not sure. There are numerous characters to keep up with too. The premise of the story kept me interested because I wanted to know if Tom was the reincarnation or not. Overall though, I just can’t bring myself to give more than three stars because this isn’t one that I’m going to be insisting my friends read.
