Historia
By the late 1960s, what had been widely heralded as the best qualified, best-trained army in United States history was descending into crisis as the Vietnam War raged without end. Morale was tanking. AWOL rates were rising. And in August 1968, a group of Black soldiers seized control of the infamous Long Binh Jail, burned buildings, and beat a white inmate to death with a shovel. The days of "same mud, same blood" were over, and a new generation of Black GIs had decisively rejected the slights and institutional racism their forefathers had endured.

Very good book. Narration was awkward. Narrator kept pausing at all the wrong moments. Made following some of the sentences difficult. I recommend reading it vs. listening to it.

Historia
When a pseudonymous programmer introduced “a new electronic cash system that’s fully peer-to-peer, with no trusted third party” to a small Online mailing list in 2008, very few paid attention. Ten years later, and against all odds, this upstart autonomous decentralized software offers an unstoppable and globally-accessible hard money alternative to modern central banks. The Bitcoin Standard analyzes the historical context to the rise of Bitcoin, the economic properties that have allowed it to grow quickly, and its likely economic, political, and social implications.

Great education on bitcoin and on the history of money in general.
Revisado: 12-28-23
Clear writing and narration. Understandable to someone without a deep economics background. I finished this with what I think is a clear understanding of bitcoin, block chain technology, and basic monetary policy. Worth the time to listen to.

A beautiful love story
Revisado: 10-17-23
McCraw’s passion for the First Amendment is palpable throughout this trek across America’s political landscape of the last few decades. His stories are intriguing and well told. Absolutely worth reading or listening to. Given all the quotes, I wish I had bought a hard copy rather than listened to it. Regardless, I highly recommend it.

From the printing press to the television, social movements have leveraged communications technologies to advance change. In this moment of rapidly evolving communications, it's imperative to assess the role that the internet, mobile devices, and social media can play in promoting social justice. But first, we must look to the past, to examples of movements throughout American history that successfully harnessed communications technology, thus facilitating positive social change.

Must read for social justice organizers
Revisado: 07-18-23
In “The Future of Change,” Brescia lays out a strategy for those who hope to influence social justice issues by leveraging technology and social media platforms to build communities of like-minded individuals. Clicking “Like” is not enough. Building donor lists is not enough. To get the full value of tech to help drive social change we have to be more nuanced in our thinking and more focused on building trust and relationships. Absolutely worth the read.

In the house of Helios, god of the sun and mightiest of the Titans, a daughter is born. But Circe is a strange child—not powerful, like her father, nor viciously alluring like her mother.
