Historia
Our current definition of “productivity” is broken. It pushes us to treat busyness as a proxy for useful effort, leading to impossibly lengthy task lists and ceaseless meetings. We’re overwhelmed by all we have to do and on the edge of burnout, left to decide between giving into soul-sapping hustle culture or rejecting ambition altogether. But are these really our only choices?

Confidence boost but not a lot of practicable advice
Revisado: 04-22-24
Overall, this was a helpful book though I was a bit disappointed at how often the author kept coming back to corporate/academic work. The book shines when it takes a higher level look at creativity and artistic achievements, but there's not a lot of advice for those working outside of academia or corporate America.

Though Twilight of the Idols (written in a week in 1888 and subtitled How to Philosophise with a Hammer) came near the end of Nietzsche’s creative life, he actually recommended it as a starting point for the study of his work. This was because from the beginning he viewed it as an introduction to his wide-ranging views.

Overall great
Revisado: 10-18-23
Decent enough translation and performance of one of Nietzsche's best. I'd recommended seeking out the Hollingdale or Kauffman translation and reading it as a way to further cement these important ideas. Great listen as a premier to reading the book oneself or to recap the ideas for a veteran Nietzschean.

Former food critic and chef, now farmer and restaurateur Matthew Evans grapples with the thorny issues around the ways we produce and consume animals. From feedlots and abattoirs to organic farms and animal welfare agencies, he has an intimate, expert understanding of the farming practices that take place in our name. Evans calls for less radicalisation, for greater understanding, and for ethical omnivores to stand up for the welfare of animals and farmers alike.

Seriously Underrated and Very Comprehensive
Revisado: 05-01-23
This is one of those rare books that's almost perfect; the science is robust, the stories interesting, and the facts and opinions clearly seperated, all presented in an engaging and thought-provoking way. The topic is explored from many different angles and no one is demonized but everyone is held responsible for the food choices they make. Whether you're a vegan, carnivore, or omnivore there's something for you in this book that will make you a more informed and more compassionate human. I've been studying similar topics and ethical issues for years and I still learned a lot. I highly recommend it!

Historia
Plenty of experts argue that anyone who wants to develop a skill, play an instrument, or lead their field should start early, focus intensely, and rack up as many hours of deliberate practice as possible. But a closer look at research on the world’s top performers shows that early specialization is the exception, not the rule. David Epstein examined the world’s most successful athletes, artists, musicians, inventors, forecasters and scientists. He discovered that in most fields—especially those that are complex and unpredictable—generalists, not specialists, are primed to excel.

A great book that can apply to any field!
Revisado: 11-17-22
First, if you're looking for a book that cites study after study and goes deep with the science and evidence on the subject of jacks of all trades or polymaths this isn't that book--as far as I know no such book or research exists. What you will find though is a massive collection of compelling anecdotes reinforced by studies from seemingly irrelevant subjects and topics which the author masterfully connects to the stories being told: that's the point. This book has something to teach everyone from any discipline and it manages to do it while being both entertaining and motivating and acts as a great jumping off point for further research on practically any other topic.

Historia
Almost every day we are bombarded with the seemingly incontrovertible message that we must reduce our consumption of meat and dairy—or eliminate them from our diets altogether. But what if the pervasive message that the plant-based diet will improve our health and save the planet is misleading—or even false? What if removing animal foods from our diet is a serious threat to human health, and a red herring in the fight against climate change.

One of the most comprehensive books I've ever read
Revisado: 10-03-22
To say this book goes deep is an understatement; even after several years of low carb eating and research I still learned a ton. The book also helped me clear up some lingering ethical questions I had surrounding meat consumption with real science and perspectives I had never considered. This book is not anti-plant foods, or even anti-veganism, but does make it clear that it is nearly impossible to be healthy or be environmentally friendly without animal foods and the proper farming and raising of them.
