Historia
In this groundbreaking treatise, Palantir co-founder and CEO Alexander C. Karp and Nicholas W. Zamiska offer a searing critique of our collective abandonment of ambition, arguing that in order for the U.S. and its allies to retain their global edge—and preserve the freedoms we take for granted—the software industry must renew its commitment to addressing our most urgent challenges, including the new arms race of artificial intelligence. The government, in turn, must embrace the most effective features of the engineering mindset that has propelled Silicon Valley’s success.

Silicon Valley Needs a Moral Compass
Revisado: 03-04-25
It is refreshing to hear from the authors of the need for a moral purpose among technology company founders as well as a greater purpose to serve our nation as a higher, more noble objective than consumerism.

Honoring Courageous Women Soldiers
Revisado: 01-06-25
The writing was very good and seemed real to life, probably from the author's deep research.
I was a paper boy during the years depicted in country Vietnam.....that little job afforded me time to read the front page. I read extensively of all things Vietnam. I was well aware when I was 11 and 12 that many women served in all combat zones in Vietnam. While not widely published, they were serving in Laos and Cambodia also, but because the US was not officially fighting there, everything was hush hush.
While the majority of women served as nurses, they also worked in other roles such as physicians, air traffic controllers, intelligence officers, clerks, and other positions in the U.S. Women’s Army Corps, U.S. Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Army Medical Specialist Corps. Additionally, civilian women worked for organizations such as the American Red Cross, Army Special Services, United Service Organizations (USO), Peace Corps, and various religious groups.
The story at times seemed over the top, especially in it's emphasis that women were always forgotten or excluded as vets....I realize that many Americans simply ignored truths at the time. But if I as a kid knew that women were serving extensively in country and surrounded constantly by combat, many had to know.
The father figure seemed over the top too often.
I grew up with a very strong willed mother. My dad was a tough guy (former military), but my mother kept him in line with my brother and me. The feminist bent seemed strained at times but my perception could be off since my mother is, was a strong woman as I grew up. We talked often of Vietnam and of the men and women serving and of the many tragedies and how our veterans were abused, etc.
I enjoyed the story tho. I know Coronado well. It is one our two favorite escapes for weekends away. The military influence there is awesome. Coronado has the highest per capita retired admirals and generals of American cities. Hence the awesome number American flags displayed in the neighborhoods.
The book was not accurate in one facet. There were no school buses in Coronado in that era....they were mentioned a few times. A good friend grew up there. She also mentioned the school bus thing.

For over a decade, philosopher and energy expert Alex Epstein has predicted that any negative impacts of fossil fuel use on our climate will be outweighed by the unique benefits of fossil fuels to human flourishing--including their unrivaled ability to provide low-cost, reliable energy to billions of people around the world, especially the world’s poorest people. And contrary to what we hear from media “experts” about today’s “renewable revolution” and “climate emergency,” reality has proven Epstein right.

Critically Needed Understanding for All
Revisado: 12-19-24
This was one of the most important reads in years for my understanding of overall energy and as national and international policy.
Truth is obfuscated by politicians always virtue signaling to take tax payer money.
If everyone knew and understood the truths of this great book, our world would be a far greater, safer, and prosperous place for the poor and disadvantaged

More than five years in the making, based on hundreds of interviews and access to previously unavailable documents, and infused with irresistible storytelling charm, Bob Spitz's Reagan stands fair to be the first truly post-partisan biography of our 40th president, and thus a balm for our own bitterly divided times. Absorbing and richly detailed, it is a revelatory chronicle of the full arc of Ronald Reagan's epic life - giving full weight to the Hollywood years, his transition to politics and successful run as California governor, and ultimately, his iconic presidency.

Reagan with Respect & Candor
Revisado: 12-19-24
Admiration of President Reagan has always been high for me. Reading this book filled in all the missing gaps in my understanding of the man.
Nancy Reagan always ensured that the public facing man was presented at his finest.
This book revealed so much more that I wanted to understand of the core of the person. Far from perfect, the revealed flaws here were far outweighed by his strong, kind character and persona. But I still needed to know of the flaws. His natural humility was his greatest strength.
This narrative was outstanding in all aspects!

Historia
Most Americans consider Abraham Lincoln to be the greatest president in history. His legend as the Great Emancipator has grown to mythic proportions as hundreds of books, a national holiday, and a monument in Washington, D.C., extol his heroism and martyrdom. But what if most everything you knew about Lincoln were false? What if, instead of an American hero who sought to free the slaves, Lincoln were in fact a calculating politician who waged the bloodiest war in American history in order to build an empire that rivaled Great Britain's?

Outstanding in Every Aspect!
Revisado: 09-02-24
this book was highly recommended to me by a close friend who also is a politically conservative thinker. he and I both enjoy reading about history and facts of History that were generally unknown. in fact, I cannot remember any topic or person in history that I have read in which this is more true than this study of Abraham lincoln. as a young boy, I was required by a teacher to memorize the Gettysburg Address, considered one of the most amazing prose by any world leader. I love the words of the Gettysburg Address. but those words are so different than the actual actions and behavior and speeches of Abraham lincoln. I consider this book to be extremely well researched and delivered in a very objective way. I could not detect any particular political leaning in the author's writing. this is one of the most fascinating books I have read. I will likely reread this book in order to solidify the many facts that I read and have already forgotten. any serious student of History should read this book in my opinion.

If anyone could be considered a Russian counterpart to the infamous British double-agent Kim Philby, it was Oleg Gordievsky. The son of two KGB agents and the product of the best Soviet institutions, the savvy, sophisticated Gordievsky grew to see his nation's communism as both criminal and philistine. He took his first posting for Russian intelligence in 1968 and eventually became the Soviet Union's top man in London, but from 1973 on he was secretly working for MI6.

Historia
In The Anxious Generation, social psychologist Jonathan Haidt lays out the facts about the epidemic of teen mental illness that hit many countries at the same time. He then investigates the nature of childhood, including why children need play and independent exploration to mature into competent, thriving adults. Haidt shows how the “play-based childhood” began to decline in the 1980s, and how it was finally wiped out by the arrival of the “phone-based childhood” in the early 2010s.

Outstanding for All, Including Youth
Revisado: 07-10-24
From beginning to end, this reading reminded me how valuable reading is to individual happiness as well collective governance..... And how the instant gratification of social media consumption has robbed youth of the joys of self improvement derived by reading and learning self-restraint. Is there any wonder why youth depression and suicide increase yearly?
