Historia
Every human journey is filled with emotional tunnels: the loss of a loved one or end of a relationship, aging and illness, career disappointments, or just an ongoing sense of dissatisfaction with life. Society tends to view these "dark nights" in clinical terms as obstacles to be overcome as quickly as possible.

Wise and wonderful
Revisado: 08-08-05
This is a wise and wonderful exploration of human suffering. Moore takes a sensitive and strong approach to facing life's harships and challenges. Rather than offering advice on how to alleviate the pain that accompanies hardship, Moore offers helpful advice on how and why these experiences can be used to develop and learn. He places individual hardships in the context of history, as an inevitable part of the human experience. I benefited greatly by his insights, and know that this book will resonate through my life.

Great fun
Revisado: 01-22-05
This is the best Prachett that I've listened to (so far), and Maurice is (paws down) my favorite Disc World character. Although all of the Disc World books are fun, this one is particularly creative, with lots of good humor and funny characters. Although some of Prachett's books have a tendency to meander, the plot here is cohesive, without being predictable. It might have been my imagination, but the book also contained a gentle message about honesty and friendship, qualities sorely lacking in this naughty cat. I think that children would also like this story.

Extremely Funny!!!!
Revisado: 01-22-05
Any book where one of the protagonists is a fruit bat is going to be a winner with me. Although I did not want to laugh at some of the author's twisted humor, I could not help myself. The characters are great and the plot, well... the plot is just crazy. I had great fun listening to this audio book.

Historia
Carl Hiaasen doesn't like the Walt Disney Company. A native of Florida, Hiaasen comes by his dislike for Disney honestly. He has witnessed the relentless success of the Disney machine firsthand with the development of Disney World and other properties around Orlando. In Team Rodent, Hiaasen paints a witty and sarcastic portrait of a company that can control the press, manipulate local governments, and—because it's Disney—get away with it. Entertaining and enlightening, the book takes a critical view of the Disney corporate giant, tracing its destructive impact.

Too bitter...
Revisado: 10-16-04
Although it was interesting to hear about the pervasive effect that Disney has on modern society, the overall bitter tone of the book was fairly annoying. This was intensified by the narrator, who tended to read the more bitter passages in a whining voice. This is clearly not an example of objective reporting. Regardless, I found much of the information to be quite intriguing, especially in regards to Disney's many failed ventures and in describing the political structure of the company.

Disney is so good, it's bad. So argues Carl Hiaasen, an award-winning investigative reporter and columnist with the Miami Herald, whose dream is to be banned forever from Disney World. In Team Rodent, Hiaasen provides an unflinching look at the mega-empire and says its attempts to alter "God's work" are a manifestation of "pure wickedness."

Dean Koontz at his best...
Revisado: 07-24-04
Dean Koontz has written several good books, but he's also written quite a few really bad ones. This was a good one-- one of the best that I've read. It had me hooked completely from the beginning through the end, and contained a nice mix of suspense and humor.

Historia
In the Nevada desert, an experiment has gone horribly wrong. A cloud of nanoparticles (micro-robots) has escaped from the laboratory. This cloud is self-sustaining and self-reproducing. It is intelligent and learns from experience. For all practical purposes, it is alive. It has been programmed as a predator. It is evolving swiftly, becoming more deadly with each passing hour. Every attempt to destroy it has failed. And we are the prey.

Good, but typical
Revisado: 07-24-04
This was a good, albeit somewhat typical, techothriller. It was fun to listen to, but I will probably soon forget that I even heard it. Like all of Michael Crichtons books, it presents an interesting scientific scenario without actually presenting any hard science. It was pure brain candy.

Makes no sense....
Revisado: 07-24-04
Although he writes well, Dan Brown seems to have a difficult time creating a logically cohesive plot. The person the main antagonist (as is revealed at the end of the book) could not have actually committed the crimes based on the scenario and structure of knowledge that was established by the author... Humm... Other somewhat fanciful events also occurred-- which made the plot even more unbelievable.
In addition, the plot was at times extremely violent and generally irreverant. Overall, the book was annoying.

Boring!
Revisado: 07-24-04
This book started out interesting and got really boring really fast. It started out in the realm of science fiction only to become a drawn out political thriller. It was painful waiting for the ending to come. It also seems to have been derived from something else....
