Maybe it was a grandparent, or a teacher, or a colleague. Someone older, patient and wise, who understood you when you were young and searching, helped you see the world as a more profound place, gave you sound advice to help you make your way through it.

How real and down to earth it is. A slice of life - a great Slice!

i wanted more! Read this book over 20 years ago, but now it had even more weight to it - as I 60 now. Still a tearful, joyful journal that at some point many of us will take. Very well written and read. Loved the additions of the letter and actual interview recordings. Thank you for writing this book!

Historia
It began in Ethiopia, hundreds of thousands of years ago, when a handful of genetic mutations caused evolution to split from the primates and mankind was born. Now, eons later, evidence of more splits from the apes is being unearthed. And with them, a disturbing realization. Ours was only one of many.

Good but flat
Revisado: 10-22-18
Story was good, but ending was flat.
Expected more, it was a meandering look at life.

Great modern classic! Great narrator!
Revisado: 05-22-15
Awesome story! More in depth and philosophical then the movie, as most books are, but still plenty of action to keep you on your toes.
Great narrator. I have heard him narrate other novels before and think he does solid performances. Not much variation in voice between characters, but he is smooth and easy to follow.
I highly recommend this audiobook!

Historia
The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.

Great story and equally great performance
Revisado: 02-26-15
It was wonderful to experience how Bram Stoker influenced our image of vampires and the legends. I enjoyed the method of story telling through the letters and journals.

Historia
The fascinating life of storyteller and humorist Mark Twain is revealed in this one-man performance based on Twain's writings. The early years of Samuel Clemens, the Mississippi River experiences, and his move to the silver mining area of Nevada are portrayed by exuberant actor McAvoy Layne; some of the most famous tales, from "The Blue Jay Yarn" to "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County" are woven into the history of this most colorful author.

Performed like stand up comedy! Excellent!
Revisado: 08-18-10
Excellent performance! The read's voice, comedic timing, and audience laughter makes you feel like you are truly at one of Mark Twain's talks. After listening to more modern comedians, I didn't expect to laugh as hard to an old writer, but I was constantly laughing at his blunt remarks and reminiscences. Twain is truly an icon ahead of his time in matters dealing with sex, race, religion, etc. The audience Q & A at the end was great!
Interestingly, my interest in becoming reacquainted with Twain's work began while I was listening to a murder mystery novel by James Patterson (Alex Cross series). The story dealt with post-civil war lynchings. Two of the characters went to a live performance by Twain and remarked on the deep hilarity of his talks. I can relate to their experience. :)
