Historia
Scarlet’s life is pretty average. Overly protective mom. Great friends. Cute boy she’s interested in. And a father she’s never known - until she does. When the FBI show up at Scarlet’s door, she is shocked to learn her father is infamous serial killer Jeffrey Robert Lake. And now, he’s dying and will only give the names and locations of his remaining victims to one person: the daughter he hasn’t seen since she was a baby.

Pretty good
Revisado: 03-17-23
This book definitely had its moments.. when Scarlet was speaking to her father was intriguing.. but I thought that the story would keep building. It got to like 7/10 level of interesting and then dipped back down by the end.
Too often I felt like the author was pandering to me about being a voice for the victims.
Tbh around this same time I watched Promising Young Woman, which was more my speed. It was unsettling which is what I expected this book to be.
Kind of hoped for more but I don’t regret listening!

Dakota Fanning was the perfect choice

I love her voice! I would’ve never picked Dakota Fanning to narrate something but she is a hidden gem!
The story was pretty good.. kind of short! Lol!
But satisfying for the most part.
The main character was likeable and the story was easy to follow.

Historia
Frankie Elkin is an average middle-aged woman, a recovering alcoholic with more regrets than belongings. But she spends her life doing what no one else will - searching for missing people the world has stopped looking for. When the police have given up, when the public no longer remembers, when the media has never paid attention, Frankie starts looking. A new case brings her to Mattapan, a Boston neighborhood with a rough reputation. She is searching for Angelique Badeau, a Haitian teenager who vanished from her high school months earlier.

Not my all-time favorite book, but definitely worth reading/listening
Revisado: 12-26-22
If you like:
-Mystery
-Detective
-Clues
-Character driven plot
-A like-able protagonist
-Characters that feel real (not too much description but enough)
-A story that you pretty much can’t guess (I guessed a little bit of it).
-a mostly realistic storyline/context
If you like any of that, you’ll like this story.
The narrator did a good job.. convincing me that she was the voice of the protagonist. But there’s something about narrators trying to do different voices that sometimes feels pandering to me. She does that.
But overall, a good story. Worth reading/listening.
