Historia
As the ash and chaos from Mount Rainier’s eruption swirled and finally settled, the story of the Greenloop massacre has passed unnoticed, unexamined...until now. The journals of resident Kate Holland, recovered from the town’s bloody wreckage, capture a tale too harrowing - and too earth-shattering in its implications - to be forgotten. In this audiobook, Max Brooks brings Kate’s extraordinary account to light for the first time, faithfully reproducing her words alongside his own extensive investigations into the massacre and the legendary beasts behind it.

If you loved WWZ you'll love this!
Revisado: 06-29-24
I love World War Z, and I'm a huge fan of Max brooks, but I was going to skip this because I don't much care about bigfoot. and then a friend of mine said it was really good and I should give it a shot. Judy Greer REALLY makes the audible version work. the other voice actors are great also, but as most of the story is told through her character's eyes, she's doing the heavy lifting. And the amazing skills she brings as an actress really brings this to life. I had access to a free version through another app that I listened to first, then came here to purchase it so I could reread it again and again and again. you need to listen to this book.

Historia
In 1993, David Koresh and a band of heavily armed evangelical Christians took on the might of the US government. A two-month siege of their compound in Waco, Texas, ended in a firefight that killed seventy-six, including twenty-five children. America is still picking up the pieces, and we still haven't heard the full story.

Balanced account of events
Revisado: 06-03-23
good reporting and a balanced account of the events that happened. I learned some new things that weren't in the recent dramatizations or the documentary available now. only giving four stars because I thought more of the book would be about the aftermath from what I read in the description. that's only in about the last hour.

Historia
In the middle of the night, in a house on a quiet street in suburban Minneapolis, intruders silently murder Luke Ellis' parents and load him into a black SUV. The operation takes less than two minutes. Luke will wake up at The Institute, in a room that looks just like his own, except there's no window. And outside his door are other doors, behind which are other kids with special talents - telekinesis and telepathy - who got to this place the same way Luke did: Kalisha, Nick, George, Iris, and 10-year-old Avery Dixon.

Solid Stephen King - but it's not The Shop
Revisado: 03-29-23
I was SOOOO excited to finally read a book about The Shop. That's what I thought this was going to be when I read the announcement. And maybe it is, or an off shoot, but you never hear that term once in the book. I wanted this to be FULL of Easter Eggs about Charlie, and Carrie, and Danny. I wanted it to acknowledge it lives in a world where pyrokinesis exists, and a bullied girl destroys her town with her mind, and a little kid brings ghosts to life in a remote hotel... even if only rumors. But that never happens.
This is a SOLID Stephen King story, and you won't be disappointed in all the things you love King for. But if you're looking for those same Easter Eggs, they aren't here. Let that go... and enjoy the ride Mr. King always gives us. :)

Tapped out at torture
Revisado: 08-11-22
the narrator is fine and does well with the voices, but the story definitely needs some content warnings. I tapped out a third of the way through with the detailed ritualistic murder of a child, complete with description of cannibalism. no thanks.

Too adversarial
Revisado: 09-22-21
there is good information in this book, but the way it is presented creates the opposite tone from what I am trying to accomplish at our work site. Encourages people to think of their co-workers in terms of labels, often defined by negative traits instead of positive traits, and focuses heavily on thinking of their co-workers in judgmental ways. I could not finish it.

Historia
Ensign Andrew Dahl has just been assigned to the Universal Union Capital Ship Intrepid, flagship of the Universal Union since the year 2456. Life couldn’t be better…until Andrew begins to pick up on the facts that (1) every Away Mission involves some kind of lethal confrontation with alien forces; (2) the ship’s captain, its chief science officer, and the handsome Lieutenant Kerensky always survive these confrontations; and (3) at least one low-ranked crew member is, sadly, always killed.

Great for any star trek fan
Revisado: 03-14-21
I loved the story, including the codas towards the end. Other reviews have described it as the story ending early and the codas as something new. I disagree. It is a continuation of the story from different perspectives and I love the layers and flavor they added. The narration by Wil Wheaton was a special treat.

Classic Steven King
Revisado: 04-02-16
At first I was worried this was not one of his supernatural works. Sometimes that's there and sometimes it isn't, and I look for the ones that have it. Half way through, i was worried that not only would that be missing, but that it was actually Christian fiction dealing with a dark night of the soul. Very glad i stuck with it. Excellent homage to classic horror... You'll know it when you get there.

Sissy Spacek brings Scout to life!
Revisado: 05-06-15
What made the experience of listening to To Kill a Mockingbird the most enjoyable?
I love this story and wanted to refamiliarize myself with it prior to Go Set a Watchman's release. Sissy Spacek did a WONDERFUL job of bringing Scout and all the residents of Maycomb to life. Disappointed she didn't narrate the sequel, too. Reese Witherspoon will have some BIG shoes to fill!
What about Sissy Spacek’s performance did you like?
It was like watching a one woman play. I really felt like I was in Depression era deep south.

Stephen King returns to the characters and territory of one of his most popular novels ever, The Shining, in this instantly riveting novel about the now middle-aged Dan Torrance (the boy protagonist of The Shining) and the very special 12-year-old girl he must save from a tribe of murderous paranormals. This is an epic war between good and evil, a gory, glorious story that will thrill the millions of hyper-devoted fans of The Shining and wildly satisfy anyone new to the territory of this icon in the King canon.

Great sequel with AWESOME narration!
Revisado: 01-01-15
Where does Doctor Sleep rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I've only just started with audiobooks. My favorite so far.
What other book might you compare Doctor Sleep to and why?
It's a wonderful sequel to the shining. Enjoyed following Danny's journey to a stable adult.
Which character – as performed by Will Patton – was your favorite?
One doesn't stand out. He did a wonderful job giving them all life.
If you could take any character from Doctor Sleep out to dinner, who would it be and why?
I don't really like this question.
Any additional comments?
I wanted to write this review becuase of Will Patton. EXCELLENT narration. He has the voice of an accomplshed storyteller, and brought everyone to life.
