Historia
Based on extensive archival research on both sides of the Atlantic, Tripped is a wild, unconventional postwar history, a spiritual sequel to Norman Ohler’s New York Times bestseller Blitzed. Revealing the close relationship and hidden connections between the Nazis and the early days of drugs in America, Ohler shares how this secret history held back therapeutic research of psychedelic drugs for decades and eventually became part of the foundation of America’s War on Drugs.

Unique take on the story of LSD
Revisado: 09-21-24
It’s well written, a good general overview of LSD. Usually the German/Swiss component of the development of and then global ban on psychedelics isn’t presented, so this was unique to this story.
Ohler was inspired to research and write it because his mother has dementia and LSD is potentially a remedy. He explores that in the last section.
He also wrote a book called Blitzed about methamphetamines and WW2 which I’m excited to read soon.

Some material dated, some standing the test of time.
Revisado: 11-22-23
Some guy’s story in this book states he paid for a year of college off the sale of 2 pigs… I had a hard time getting over the inflation we’re living in in 2023. But there were references to people losing everything in 1929 and still finding ways to make peace. I’m not a big fan of all the Bible references, but I can see why they’d be included in a book with this subject matter. Overall a 3 star.

Few events have had a more profound impact on the social and cultural upheavals of the Sixties than the psychedelic revolution spawned by the spread of LSD. This audiobook for the first time tells the full and astounding story - part of it hidden till now in secret Government files - of the role the mind-altering drug played in our recent turbulent history and the continuing influence it has on our time. And what a story it is, beginning with LSD’s discovery in 1943 as the most potent drug known to science.

Well researched material and good narration

It was easy to crush out this one. The material was well researched and interesting. The narration was on point.
Side note: that Jolly West sure seems like an interesting character. He’s is all these books, but just a little bit. Read Chaos by Tom O’Neill and that’s where I learned of him first. Wonder what his deal is…

So many useful tips in this book. I feel seen. I feel less alone. I only recently heard about HSP and am thirsty for knowledge of how to manage this blessing. Even knowing there are other HSP parents out there makes this journey more manageable and fulfilling. Feeling grateful for the colossal effort it must have been to produce this book. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Historia
In this revolutionary book, renowned physician Gabor Maté eloquently dissects how in Western countries that pride themselves on their healthcare systems, chronic illness and general ill health are on the rise. Nearly 70 percent of Americans are on at least one prescription drug; more than half take two. In Canada, every fifth person has high blood pressure. In Europe, hypertension is diagnosed in more than 30 percent of the population. And everywhere, adolescent mental illness is on the rise. So what is really “normal” when it comes to health?

Took me a while to get through because it’s intensely thought provoking
Revisado: 01-13-23
Took me a while to get through because it’s intensely thought provoking. I find myself very moved by the content of this book. The writing is on the wall as a society, how do we choose to move forward? Working toward authenticity. I’m going to listen a 2nd time as soon as these final chapters sink in a bit more. Also enjoyed his book Hold on to your Kids and looking forward to watching Wisdom of Trauma. Thank you for the knowledge and guidance, Dr Mate. I wish you would have been the narrator, though.

Historia
From 1965 to 1995, the Grateful Dead flourished as one of the most beloved, unusual, and accomplished musical entities to ever grace American culture. The creative synchronicity among Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Bill Kreutzmann, Mickey Hart, and Ron "Pigpen" McKernan exploded out of the early 60s roots and folk scene, providing the soundtrack for the Dionysian revels of the counterculture. Dennis McNally, the band's historian and publicist for more than 20 years, takes listeners back through the Dead's history.

Such an amazing deep dive into the history of the Grateful Dead
Revisado: 01-03-23
Brushing up before the final tour commences. Such a well pieced together history of the band. Easy to follow. Often times I paused as I heard interesting info about artwork or songs or myths and legends and took the time to go down those rabbit holes. Found an incredible podcast which has 2 seasons called Dead and Gone which looks at unsolved deaths related to the GD. Any time I commit to a book of this length, I feel as though I’m parting with a good friend as it comes to a close. Had tears in my eyes thinking about Jerry dying with a smile on his face. Always wanted to go to a Dead show, but I missed the St Louis 95 show because I was 15 and my parents told me that’s how you get pregnant. Will have to settle for the history lessons here in this book and a few shows on the Dead and Co tour 23. And we’ll always have the music.
