I ended up enjoying this story a lot but at first I didn’t think I’d like it. Good ending. I will read/listen to the next one.

You'll be swept into a beautiful world
Revisado: 05-20-20
Woodburn sets a wondrous background. She pulls you in with vivid descriptions of things and places while endearing the characters to your heart with in depth emotions. This is a love story no doubt about that. It has a magical realism aspect that's intriguing.

Historia
Van Sato's got labels. Tourettes, ADHD, SPD - words that have defined his existence since the time he was old enough to know what they meant. Now, Van wants to prove he's more than an acronym, a syndrome, a problem kid. He takes a summer job as a day camp counselor to prove he's capable of independence and moving on to the next phase in his life. Maybe, he might even make a friend while there. Someone who's got just as many or even more labels than him. Someone who understands what it's like.

Van and Tabby stole my heart. Katie’s keen grasp of Van’s physical and mental problems was fantastic. I rooted for him all the way. Her portrayal of Tabby’s mental health issues was also captured truthfully. Even though these topics are tough the story is uplifting and fun to read.

Written as a narrative to my daughter, I wanted her to have the whole story. Where she came from. Why I placed her for adoption. And how, for the next 18 years, I hovered on the edges of her family, granted access by her generous parents, but always wanting more. More for her, and more for me.

A heartfelt journey. A wonderful read.
Revisado: 01-30-20
An exceptionally beautiful story possibly meant for a niche audience but will charm any reader. Yes, this is one birthmom's story that will undoubtedly help other birthmom's choosing to give up their child for adoption as well as comfort adopted children looking for answers. Answers may or may not be the right word. But I hope you understand what I'm trying to say. This book would be great for those readers. But this book is great for all readers. It's full of kind messages, true heartfelt emotions, painful heartache. It's a journey and it takes you on a tour of emotions. It warmed my heart. It made me laugh and cry. It shows us what is possible when we're open and honest with each other.
The author is the reader and she does a wonderful job sharing her story.

Historia
Everything about Jessie is wrong. At least that's what it feels like during her first week of junior year at her new ultra-intimidating prep school in Los Angeles. Just when she's thinking about hightailing it back to Chicago, she gets an email from a person calling themselves Somebody/Nobody (SN for short), offering to help her navigate the wilds of Wood Valley High School. Is it an elaborate hoax? Or can she rely on SN for some much-needed help?

Historia
It's been 18 months since the Raxter School for Girls was put under quarantine, since the Tox hit and pulled Hetty's life out from under her. It started slow. First the teachers died, one by one. Then it began to infect the students, turning their bodies strange and foreign. Now, left to fend for themselves on their island home, the girls don't dare wander outside the school's fence, where the Tox has made the woods wild and dangerous. They wait for the cure they were promised as the Tox seeps into everything. But when Byatt goes missing, Hetty will do anything to find her.

Strong friendships and horrific sci-fi sickness
Revisado: 08-13-19
Interesting concept. You definitely get sucked in but that is disturbing. If you like sci-fi, medical horror or strange disease fiction you’ll love it. It’s done well. It gets a little too dire for me in middle/three fourths in, which is why I gave it 4 stars. My favorite thing about this story is the girls friendship. Strong bonds that tie girls together. And that although they’re good to each other, they may not be entirely good girls.

Loved it even though it’s not my favorite style
Revisado: 04-24-19
I enjoyed Scythe even though it’s not my type of book. I mean, it’s a little too sci-fi or dystopian for me. At first I didn’t think I’d get through it. I thought it’d be too Margaret Atwood for me but it wasn’t and the characters grew on me. I had to know their fate. Very well written. Awesome plot. Creative world.

Historia
Victor and Eli started out as college roommates - brilliant, arrogant, lonely boys who recognized the same sharpness and ambition in each other. In their senior year, a shared research interest in adrenaline, near-death experiences, and seemingly supernatural events reveals an intriguing possibility: that under the right conditions, someone could develop extraordinary abilities. But when their thesis moves from the academic to the experimental, things go horribly wrong.

I love VE Schwab’s Darker Shades of Magic series so I knew I’d like this series too but I didn’t know what I was in for. They are very different but equally as fun to read or listen to. Don’t give up on Vicious if you find the beginning off or weird or hard to follow because eventually Schwab weaves an intricate web of tantalizing drama.
