Historia
The adventuring industry drives the economy of Arth, a world much like our own but with more magic and fewer vowels. Monsters' hoards are claimed, bought by corporate interests, and sold off to plunder funds long before the Heroes' Guild actually kills the beasts. Of course, that's a terrible arrangement for the Shadowkin; orcs, goblins, kobolds, and their ilk must apply for to become Noncombatant Paper Carriers (or NPCs) to avoid being killed and looted by heroes.

This series shows that you can have a compelling story without taking yourself too seriously. This book is filled with tongue and cheek references and self aware jokes while still introducing an interesting world with plot twists and endearing characters. Essentially it's a series where the bad guy is capitalism, who wouldn't love that?

Right when everything shut down, I decided out of the blue that I wanted to learn Chinese in my new found free time. I have bought books, software and watched countless videos. But this audio book is hands down the most effective method I have used so far. I built up vocabulary quickly and had Chinese grammar simply explained to me. After finishing this book, I was able to astound my Chinese speaking friends.
When you are done, be sure to buy the follow up book "Next steps in Mandarin Chinese" where he goes into greater depth concerning tenses and questioning along with a whole lot more vocab.

Leaves me wanting more
Revisado: 07-18-20
Shadows Rising is an excellent addition to the Warcarft collection. Unlike other books in the series, this one jumps around to a myriad perspectives throughout the book. I loved listening in on the thoughts of motivations of characters I know from the game. I learned a surprising amount in some cases and I can't wait to see how all these ideas tie into Shadowlands.
Great book,

Historia
At the verge of turning 40, Peter Sagal - brainiac Harvard grad, short, bald Jew with a disposition toward heft, and a sedentary star of public radio - started running seriously. And much to his own surprise, he kept going, faster and further, running 14 marathons and logging tens of thousands of miles on roads, sidewalks, paths, and trails all over the US and the world, including the 2013 Boston Marathon, where he crossed the finish line moments before the bombings.

Revisado: 11-10-18
Peter Sagal's undeniable knack for comedy burns brightly all through out this books which he weaves gracefully in and out of incredibly tragic stories. I can unironically say that I laughed, I cried, and I changed.
I've begun to run again thanks to the inspiration in this book. Thank you Peter!

Historia
The former Confederate states have continually mythologized the South's defeat to the North, depicting the Civil War as unnecessary, or as a fight over states' Constitutional rights, or as a David v. Goliath struggle in which the North waged "total war" over an underdog South. In The Myth of the Lost Cause, historian Edward Bonekemper deconstructs this multi-faceted myth, revealing the truth about the war that nearly tore the nation apart 150 years ago.

Wow, what an important book
Revisado: 05-24-18
With the seeming resurgence of racist ideals and alt facts, I wanted to gain a real and true picture of what transpiring before and during the Civil War. I am so glad I picked this book it brings to light so many falsehoods I hear from everyone and even what I was taught in college!! That being said, I couldn't finish the book, the author quotes so many historical figures saying such outrageously racist things (things that eerily resonate with today's climate) that I couldn't resume listening without being disgusted. I'm certainly not returning it though, this book was everything I was looking for. Thank you Mr. Bonekemper!

Not Neil's best work
Revisado: 12-31-17
Don't get me wrong, I think Mr. Shusterman is an excellent author and is definitely worth your time and credits. That being said, the premise of this series, in my opinion, is so outlandish and unrealistic, I couldn't possibly take the story seriously. The adults in this story are beyond cold or oppressive to a degree that's almost comical. I strongly urge you to try a different series by this author.

We think of Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson, but far more seductive is the pairing of Holmes and Professor James Moriarty, 'the Napoleon of crime' - a rivalry unparalleled in the world of crime fiction. Fiercely intelligent and a relentless schemer, Moriarty is the super-villain as megastar.

Honestly, not that great...
Revisado: 05-24-16
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I won't be recommending this book to anyone I know. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love The Sherlock universe and I think Moriarty is one of literature's best antagonists. That being said, if you're like me, you might not like this book either.
One problem is that most of the authors write about the reichenbach falls, which means most of the stories contradict themselves in one way or another. Some stories he dies, some he lives, some he intends to go over, some he barely escapes with his life.
Next, some stories completely break from the genre. I really wasn't interested in hearing about Moriarty fighting an alien invasion or planning a caper with woodland creatures.
So if you buy this book, I hope you know what you're getting into, because I did not, and that's why I eventually had to return it.

Historia
This final play from the pen of Oscar Wilde is a stylish send-up of Victorian courtship and manners, complete with assumed names, mistaken lovers, and a lost handbag. Jack and Algernon are best friends, both wooing ladies who think their names are Ernest, "that name which inspires absolute confidence". Wilde's effervescent wit, scathing social satire, and high farce make this one of the most cherished plays in the English language.

I always imagined Oscar Wilde as being a very serious writer. However there were several instances in this play were I couldn't breathe because I was laughing to hard. I've made everyone I know listen to it and everyone has thanked me for the experience. I definitely recommend this for you.

Erik Cain joined the marines to get off death row. The deal was simple; enlist to fight in space and he would be pardoned for all his crimes. In the 23rd Century, assault troops go to war wearing AI-assisted, nuclear-powered armor, but it is still men and blood that win battles. From one brutal campaign to the next, Erik and his comrades fight an increasingly desperate war over the resource rich colony worlds that have become vital to the economies of Earth's exhausted and despotic Superpowers.

Good Story, Poor Narration
Revisado: 11-29-13
Any additional comments?
Let me start off by saying the story itself is pretty great. If you enjoy space and warfare, then you'll enjoy this series.
But be warned the narration was less than perfect. There were two things in particular; the narrator doesn't speak with confidence like you would expect a marine to sound like. He just sounds depressed about every little detail.....
The other thing involves what could be described as "sound effects", Whenever a character is speaking with a radio, they add an echo which I found very distracting. I wish they hadn't done that.
