I did not find myself excited to continue the story

A story of a man being courted by two comically attractive women who decides on a substance abuse of pain killers instead. Oh, and there's some space stuff that stretches belief almost as much as the characters. The story goes to great lengths to set up consequences, then just hand waves them away as if they were unimportant. It ends up feeling like half the story is just a waste of time, setting up situations and conflict to then go "but nah it was all fine and unimportant" so why spend all that time making it important? More than a few reviewers hinted at this being funny. It's not. Sometimes you'll roll an eye or snort, not laugh. It's not a bad story necessarily, just plodding and nonsensical. The "love" angle is somewhere between cringe and fulfillment fantasy. At no point was I excited to continue the story.

How do you keep the energy and stakes high this many books in? I'll never know, but it works. 5/5 this might be the best series out there.

A bit lackluster story

The book had some good moments, but they were spaced pretty far apart and the rest was... uninspiring. The main character is unlikable and the story premise is far fetched and paper thin. When the book hits, it hits well. It just doesn't hit often. The "conclusion" addresses few of the problems put forth by the story and ends with a soft close, the short story that follows is mediocre and feels like a consolation prize for sitting through the main book. 3 stars feels generous.

Excellent with one caveat

Overall excellent but the tense changes from first to third without warning or reason. This may make more sense in the written version. Random bits of music are an odd choice as well. That being said the story is great and well worth a listen.

Easily the worst in the whole series

Love the series, hate the book.
It drags on unnecessarily and has very little of the charm that the rest of the series possesses.
Still great voice acting.

Coming back to this series after a long break

Coming back to the series I'm struggling to remember what I liked about it. Boyet has written other good series and this one started pretty strong but this is just... greasy. I struggled to get through this story without eye rolling or just having to stop listening for a day or two.

The series loses steam the further it goes on

Still have the longstanding pronunciation issues from the first two books, fine. But the story just limps and drags along now with filler galore and not a lot of meat. The book could have easily been condensed into a couple of hours without losing anything.

The children will starve, the dog will go unwalked, but it doesn't matter because this is a literary masterpiece done in a great style.
