More Mad Mick!

I was so excited to see that it was time for another Mad Mick story. I love the exploits of Mick and Barb. And the narration by Kevin Pierce is my lullaby every night, not that he is boring, he just has a great voice. When searching for a new listen I just search for Kevin Pierce. He does a great job with Mick and Barb’s Irish accents.
That said, even though I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it was my least favorite of the series so far. I think maybe I just enjoy their world at the homestead with no electricity. So basically, my least favorite of my favorite books. I recommend 100%.

Funny, clever, soul wrenching, great.

This book and the one that preceded it were two of the best books I have ever read or listened to. I often found myself thinking about my uncle while listening. He was one of the brave men who was willing to fight in this conflict that, when it was concluded, left such a scar because it was never really “finished”. Then these men came home carrying their demons, and were spit upon by a citizenship who despised them through no fault of their own.
The author tells his story using a lot of humor, but you still feel the depth of his sorrow and hurt at the loss he saw daily. You could feel his anger at the people making decisions from the safety of their cushy offices back at home. These men were used up, many losing their lives, to provide intel about enemy troop movements on little parcels of land that were then fought for, gained, lost again, then fought for again.
I don’t often leave reviews, but these two books were just too good not to. Though I found myself laughing throughout most of the books, the final chapter of the last book touched me to the depth of my soul. This is a story of brothers closer than any familial brothers could ever be, who in the end are torn apart from each other knowing they will likely only see each other again “on the other side”. Read/listen to it. You won’t regret it.

Starts off slow, but definitely does not stay that way. I love this narrator, but never listened to this author before. Would recommend this book to friends. The ending took me completely by surprise.

Excellent Series!

I am in love with the Mad Mick! It is my favorite series, and if Franklin Horton wrote 24/7, he could not pump out stories about Mick and Barb fast enough for me. The characters are fascinating and the depths to which Horton goes to let the reader get to know them shows his talent.
I’m not sure the characters would be as endearing without the fabulous narration of the great Kevin Pierce. The accent he has given Mick is wonderful. I hope Horton continues to write stories about Mad Mick, Barb, and the others at their compound.
I highly recommend this book, and this entire series.

I’ve loved every book I’ve read by Franklin Horton. He’s a master of the post apocalyptic genre. I was excited to listen to his latest work. The narrator was impossible. He reads so fast, it almost causes anxiety. I tried to slow the speed of the narration, but that only caused the speech to sound odd. I guess if I want to enjoy this book, I will have to purchase it in print. Horton should have stuck with Kevin Pierce.

I love the main character and his daughter in this story. The plot was well written, the characters well rounded. The narrator is one of my favorites, and did not disappoint here. Post apocalyptic fiction is my favorite genre of book, and Franklin Horton is a winner.

Great series...All in one place!

I am a fan of post-apocalyptic literature, and a fan of Tom Abrahams. Also a fan of Kevin Pierce. I found my first Tom Abrahams book while perusing all of the books narrated by Kevin Pierce. He is the best narrator out there. His voice is actually calming. Back to the book. I was very excited to see the box set of The Spaceman Series on Audible. I was planning on reading the Spaceman series when I was finished with The Traveler Series, also by Tom Abrahams. The Spaceman Series is edge of your seat exciting and holds your attention throughout with ups, downs, and a ton of scientific information. If, like me, you love to learn, this is an awesome find. Information about the sun, space, and space travel is peppered throughout the books and meshes with the story perfectly. You learn without even realizing it. As always with Tom Abrahams, he is very good at conveying his characters thoughts and feelings. You can almost feel what they feel and see what they see. I would sometimes find myself holding my breath or being startled by something that was happening to the characters. This is a wonderful set and I recommend it to my friends and family. Get it. I really believe you will enjoy it.

Excellent Stand-alone

I have become an avid reader of the post-apocalyptic genre of books. Tom Abrahams is one of the finest. His Traveller series was great. I binged on that one. He has obviously done his research in the area of life after SHTF.
I enjoy how this book takes an average family, in an average situation, and plunges them into chaos. The author lets you into the thoughts and feelings of each character so well that you can almost feel what they feel. This is not part of a series, and if you are new to Tom Abrahams this would be a good way to sample his work, as you aren’t left with a cliffhanger. It is likely you will move on to one of his series though. You will just have to have more. Of course the narration is spectacular. I believe Kevin Pierce is the best out there, and anytime you can get him to narrate your book, you take your work to another level.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys an exciting and smart read. Even those who do not usually read post apocalyptic literature would enjoy this book. Buy it. You won’t regret it.
