Historia
Here is a timeless tale of waterside Britain that has been loved by generations of children and acclaimed as a classic. The story of Mole, Ratty, Badger, and Toad, and their escapades, whether messing about on the river or poop-pooping in Toad's shiny new car, cannot fail to enchant.

Hard to understand
Revisado: 04-27-25
I have trouble understanding the narrator. However, perhaps it is not the narrator's fault. I am American and much of the word choice and idioms are not familiar to me. The accent is what I want to call old British grandpa. It seems like the words run together. However, this way of speaking might well be an established custom rather than a defect in the narrator.

Historia
We humans are the inheritors of a dynasty that has reigned over the planet for nearly 66 million years, through fiery cataclysm and ice ages: the mammals. Our lineage includes saber-toothed tigers, woolly mammoths, armadillos the size of a car, cave bears three times the weight of a grizzly, clever scurriers that outlasted Tyrannosaurus rex, and even other types of humans, like Neanderthals.

Historia
After Jason’s world falls apart in LA, he moves to Berkeley for a fresh start with his kid brother. Just one problem: his long-closeted Adderall addiction has exploded into an out-of-control crystal meth binge. Within weeks, Jason plunges into the sprawling ParTy n’ ’Play subculture of the Bay Area’s gay community. It is a wildly decadent scene of drugs, group sex, and criminals, and yet it is also filled with surprising characters, people who are continually subverting Jason’s own presumptions of the stereotypical tweaker.

Jason delivers a nice audio performance
Revisado: 11-14-24
Jason Yamas wrote a long and entertaining memoir about his life as a gay PNP-er and drug dealer.
Jason also performed the book on audio, which adds a lot to the writing. He does some entertaining impressions of the characters.
Jason is not really such a good person, but we love him because he is honest and articulate.
[What I mean is that Jason, the narrator, seems to be giving us, the readers, and honest confession of his past life as a dishonest person.]
Most gay men will be able to relate to him. And most addicts will be able to relate to him, too.
Jason also took on some risk by revealing so much of his criminal and embarrassing behavior, and I am grateful to him for that.
Jason, I hope to see you succeed in your creative projects. Thank you for getting your shit together long enough to write this fun book. I wonder if I will read about you relapsing and dying in a car accident some day. Hope not.

Ever sworn off alcohol for January and found yourself drinking by the 7th? Think there's 'no point' in just one drink? Welcome! There are millions of us. This inspirational, aspirational and highly relatable narrative champions the benefits of sobriety with a three-pronged approach combining the author's personal experience, factual reportage and contributions from expert sources and self-help advice for anyone who wants to reduce their alcohol intake or eliminate it completely.

pleasant possitive message
Revisado: 11-05-24
This is a pleasant sobriety book that can help you stay sober.
I like the autobiographical portions about poor decisions she made while drinking and her experiences in early sobriety.

Historia
The single glass of wine with dinner... the cold beer on a hot day... the champagne flute raised in a toast... what I'd drink if Hunter S. Thompson wanted to get wasted with me... these are my fantasies lately. Too bad I've gone sober. When Sacha Z. Scoblic was drinking, she was a rock star; the days were rough and the nights filled with laughter and blackouts. Then she gave it up. She had to. Here are her adventures in an utterly and maddeningly sober world... and how she discovered that nothing is as odd and fantastic as life without a drink in hand.

A sober yuppie girl writes about her party days
Revisado: 10-29-24
This writer seems pretty honest but often times comes across as a snob.
She's liberal but also judgmental toward the working class or people who don't fit into her priviledged culture.
I did like the book. It's a window into her world and how alcohol affects the lives of urban professionals.

This book is why people hate AA
Revisado: 08-16-24
Dr. Bob calls everyone a miserable sinner. The only solution to your problem is to accept that you are rotten and fall on your knees and tremble before an angry god. (I really hate this message!)
You don't have to agree with this book to be part of AA.
For a kinder god who actually likes you, try reading Alcoholics Anonymous: The big book. Dr. Bob is the mean one, Bill W. is the nice one.
Bill insisted that everyone was welcome at AA.

Insightful Read for Any Addiction

A good read for the sober curious
Revisado: 06-19-24
I am pleasantly surprised by this memoir. This is an autobiography with a lot of advice about recovery from marijuana addiction. Recovery books are often boring and cliche. But this book is fresh, insightful and entertaining. I found it to offer a useful perspective as well as being fun to read.
At the very least this book kept me away from weed for several hours. But perhaps I will stop smoking entirely in part because of this book.
If you are sober curious and want an entertaining book that presents the principles of AA (but for marijuana), this is the best book I have found so far!
This is an excellent recovery book! Perfect for anyone curious about getting off weed.
Thank you Kathy D!
