Across the nation, Americans are undergoing an intense period of self-examination. How are our identities and behaviors shaped by the groups to which we belong? How can we reach past our own biases to better understand others? The study of sociology can help us answer these questions, making us better citizens in the process.

Loved this course
Revisado: 07-17-20
I came into this course with very little sociology experience. I was really surprised by how much I ended up learning. Prof. Simmons is obviously a leading researcher and teacher in her field, and provides countless interesting tidbits about how human groups functions and why they do what they do. Always backed up by data, Simmons is the perfect guide to introduce you to the foundational concepts of Sociology.

Nouwen is a really great teacher. He writes beautifully about profound ideas, but never gets lost in the clouds. I highly recommend this book if you want actionable advice that will help improve your relationship with God in everyday life. The narrator (Colborne) does a nice job, and strikes the right tone and pace. 5 stars.

Drawing on the letters and records of individual soldiers, this compelling audio course invites you to explore the relationship between events on the battlefield and life on the home front. With more than 600,000 casualties, the Civil War cannot be understood by looking exclusively at famous figures like Abraham Lincoln, Robert E. Lee, and Ulysses S. Grant. As you’ll see, ordinary people — volunteer soldiers, runaway slaves, civilians in both the North and South — shaped the course of history.

The Skipped Facts of the American Civil War

Loved It
Revisado: 10-18-19
Carmichael is one of my favorite Learn25 presenters. He was the perfect choice to present this type of series, considering he runs the Civil War Institute at Gettysburg College. I found his stories about soldier's everyday lives refreshing, and a nice departure from the endless names and dates you sometimes hear historians rattle off. Highly recommend this one for any one who wants to get a sense for the defining conflict of American history.

No sport is more enthralling than boxing - called “the noble art” and the “sweet science”. As famed boxing announcer Larry Merchant once noted, boxing is the “theater of the unexpected”. Its storied history has seen momentous bouts, the breakdown of racial barriers, and fights of the century. In this thrilling 18-part audio series, the inimitable David L. Hudson, Jr. takes you on a thrilling ringside ride.

Fascinating Course
Revisado: 10-18-19
I think most people would agree relationships are one of the most important aspects of life. And yet, it's so difficult to find real, substantive advice on how to create a strong social network or healthy intimate relationship. DeWall's course is a breath of fresh air in this regard, as he cites extensive scientific literature that explains how humans can better relate with one another. Highly recommend this one - it may surprise you.

Historia
In the medieval period, how did religious women and men put into words their intense - and intensely personal - devotional practices, visions, and experiences? And how did those efforts to articulate mystical experiences comport with church doctrine? You’ll rejoice in this fresh approach to the mystical tradition, grounded in history and letters but elevated by the mystery of the soul. A natural and energetic speaker, Prof. Fee sets every aspect of his subject ablaze. You’ll find his enthusiasm infectious.

Fee Does it Again
Revisado: 10-18-19
Chris Fee is a gifted teacher. He combines an astonishing breadth of knowledge on a vast array of topics with a warm and down-to-earth demeanor. This program covers a number of mystics, ranging from borderline household names (such as Meister Eckhart, the inspiration for the book "The Power of Now") to more obscure characters like Richard Rolle of Hampole. Fee provides an in-depth description of each seeker - you can tell he's done his homework and really engages with the thought of these spiritual guides. 5 stars.

Now you can join a leading Catholic scientist in examining the most vital questions about the universe. Your guide, Br. Profound Reflections on the Meaning of Life
Revisado: 10-18-17
I really enjoyed listening to this series from start to finish.
Dr. Consolmagno - a Jesuit brother and an MIT-trained scientist - speaks compellingly about the intersection between science and religion. Throughout the program, he demonstrates why both fields are indispensable in man's search for higher truth. I can't imagine a more knowledgeable or qualified person to lead talks on this subject.
Despite the weighty questions he deals with, Dr. Consolmagno injects a good deal of humor and irony throughout the program. His energy really is infectious. Can't recommend enough!
