Why we think it’s a great listen: You thought he was a stodgy scientist with funny hair, but Isaacson and Hermann reveal an eloquent, intense, and selfless human being who not only shaped science with his theories, but politics and world events in the 20th century as well. Based on the newly released personal letters of Albert Einstein, Walter Isaacson explores how an imaginative, impertinent patent clerk became the mind reader of the creator of the cosmos.

Great story about the man not just the science. The narration made it easier to follow the explanations of the equations.

There was a balance between the science and the person who was Einstein. Outstanding narration.

Historia
We prefer not to talk about it, but we should. Disease spread by waste kills more people worldwide every year than any other single cause of death. Even in America, nearly two million people have no access to an indoor toilet. Yet the subject remains unmentionable. Moving from the underground sewers of Paris, London, and New York (an infrastructure disaster waiting to happen) to an Indian slum where ten toilets are shared by 60,000 people, The Big Necessity breaks the silence, revealing everything that matters about how people do - and don't - deal with their own waste.

Shit happens!
Revisado: 11-24-23
This was a fascinating book about the most basic human function. It’s interesting to see how improvement in the health and economic security of people in many nations are hampered by the lack of access to clean toilets. It’s also clear that the lack of sanitation solutions need be addressed first when discussing environmental pollution. The narration was excellent keeping you engaged in listening to what could have become an overwhelmingly distressing topic.

Historia
Dan Davis, an electronics engineer, had finally made the invention of a lifetime: a household robot that could do almost anything. Wild success was within reach, but then Dan's life was ruined. In a plot to steal his business, his greedy partner and greedier fiancée tricked him into taking the "long sleep": suspended animation for 30 years.

Great fun
Revisado: 06-01-23
It was fun to be reminded how much I enjoyed science fiction when I was younger and there still was science in sci-fi. Clarke, Asimov and Heinlein I read them all yet somehow I missed this story. In addition to it being a nice summer story it was fun to have Heinlein describe from his 1957 perspective what science would make possible in 1970 and then 2000. Even though he and his wife were engineers there was a limit to the accuracy of his predictions. Not a criticism but just an observation that the direction of technological advances is not linear and hard to predict.

Historia
Poland, a modern state in the very center of Europe, used to be a battlefield of many nations. Throughout its history, Poland had to fight for its independence—for its very existence. This captivating guide to Polish history will get you acquainted with the country that is probably most overlooked in historical studies. Sure, everyone knows the Second World War started with the Nazi occupation of Poland, but the country is old and very rich in events, great kings, ruling nobles, and defining culture.

Terrible narration!
Revisado: 12-31-22
This is a general overview of polish history. By that I mean a list of kings, rulers, political figures with dates. No real analysis of events. That would be ok as I know nothing of Polish history. But the narration was horrible which made this painful to listen to.

Historia
This kaleidoscopic book covers almost 3,000 years of Arab history and shines a light on the footloose Arab peoples and tribes who conquered lands and disseminated their language and culture over vast distances. Tracing this process to the origins of the Arabic language, rather than the advent of Islam, Tim Mackintosh-Smith begins his narrative more than a thousand years before Muhammad and focuses on how Arabic, both spoken and written, has functioned as a vital source of shared cultural identity over the millennia.

Long listen
Revisado: 12-05-21
This is an important topic for study however I think it would have been better served in the written format rather than as an audio book
. I found following the Arab names and locations difficult. However the narrator was excellent. I just wish I had a map and written outline of the players to refer to while listening.
