Historia
No one ever goes into an argument intending to lose. Indeed, it is no exaggeration to say that every single person on the face of the planet—every man, woman and child—has, at some moment or another, tried to win an argument. Because arguments are everywhere. Whether it is in the comments section on Facebook, or in the Houses of Parliament, or at the dinner table. We cannot escape the human urge, need, and—yes—desire to argue. But arguing itself tends to get a bad rap. It’s blamed for everything from political polarization to marital breakdown.

A great introduction to debating.
Revisado: 06-29-24
As a debating coach I can say that this book is a valuable starting point for people interested in debating and has some good tips and pointers. However it is superficial and does not give robust methodology for improvement. If you are a beginner this is for you. If you are a competitive debater then you can skip this book.

Historia
Economics is broken. It has failed to predict, let alone prevent, financial crises that have shaken the foundations of our societies. Its outdated theories have permitted a world in which extreme poverty persists while the wealth of the super-rich grows year on year. And its blind spots have led to policies that are degrading the living world on a scale that threatens all of our futures. Can it be fixed?

Must read
Revisado: 12-14-22
I liked how this book challenges economic orthodoxy and places the environment in a central part of the the discussion.
Kate Loves economics and explains her arguments clearly and completely. While I am not sold on every argument from my perspective as an African reader living in Africa. For instance we can’t necessarily afford to pursue Green growth industrial policy, I am nonetheless happy to have read this book.
I found many ideas to pursue and examine further and my effort reading this book has not been wasted. Reading it in 2022 has also allowed me the chance to evaluate whether it stood the test of time. It did.

Brilliant and engagingly written, Why Nations Fail answers the question that has stumped the experts for centuries: Why are some nations rich and others poor, divided by wealth and poverty, health and sickness, food and famine?

Every African student must read this
Revisado: 09-06-22
This book is a useful reference point for anyone interested in economics, in politics and how they intersect. It is honest and gives a view that helps clarify many problems in places like Sub Saharan Africa. While I had an intuitive understanding of this content from my lived experience, the book helped me fill out some gaps and deepen my understanding. Thank you to everyone involved in this project.
