Gānbēi!
Revisado: 06-19-24
This is an excellent book and a great continuation of the James Reese series. The weaving of so many of the inspirations for Jack Carr into this story is astounding! I tried to listen to all of it in one day but ended up costing myself an estimated 5 hours of much needed sleep. It was extremely hard to turn off! I look forward to the next novel!

Much of this book is right nutritionally but the author does not know the difference between good and bad fat. Furthermore he fabricated a lot about the modern Dairy business and is pushing an agenda.

Excellent!
Revisado: 10-21-23
Jim wrote a great novel. The one thing I dislike about the author is he is so good as so many things. It is amazing to see how Jim wove in the progression to being a hunter but also his path to collecting. I met Jim and his wife as a young man and since have aspired to be like him, now he as added a whole new level. I am looking forward to the next book. And Jim, if you read this please know you have a lot of people praying for you through the loss of your “Soul catcher”, stay strong hunter.

Historia
"What should we have for dinner?" To one degree or another, this simple question assails any creature faced with a wide choice of things to eat. Anthropologists call it the omnivore's dilemma. Choosing from among the countless potential foods nature offers, humans have had to learn what is safe, and what isn't. Today, as America confronts what can only be described as a national eating disorder, the omnivore's dilemma has returned with an atavistic vengeance.

Not Factual
Revisado: 09-06-23
The author gets the emotion right about slot of things but the facts are wrong. For example he talks about “the pheasants following the bison”. That isn’t true at all pheasants are an introduced species from Asian. Also what he calls antibiotics in the cattle business are not all antibiotics and his reasons for why on would use grain is based in conjecture and not science. He also over dramatized his hunting experience but he does capture the essence of why we hunt.

Informative
Revisado: 05-15-23
Interesting to see reviews that thought this book should be a comedic take on maps. The point of this book is to explore the world of the geographically inclined. So if one thought this book should be humorous beyond some nerdy jokes, well I would recommend looking in to something written by a comedian not a jeopardy champion.

Historia
Myths of the Golden State’s abundance enticed thousands of Americans uprooted by the Depression, but those who created those myths saw only invading criminal “hordes” that they believed just one man could stop: James “Two-Gun” Davis, Los Angeles’ authoritarian police chief. The Golden Fortress tells the story of Davis’s audacious deployment of hand-picked armed police slamming California’s door on America’s Dust Bowl refugees and Depression-displaced migrants.

Revisado: 11-17-22
The author should have stayed to the history, and not sandwiched the subject with the demonization of modern fellow Americans. Frankly I found his approach disgusting.

Historia
Seven years ago, readers and listeners around the country fell in love with a singular American voice: Rinker Buck, whose infectious curiosity about history launched him across the West in a covered wagon pulled by mules and propelled his book about the trip, The Oregon Trail, to ten weeks on the New York Times bestseller list. Now, Buck returns to chronicle his latest incredible adventure: building a wooden flatboat from the bygone era of the early 1800s and journeying down the Mississippi River to New Orleans.

Too Political and Divisive
Revisado: 08-29-22
When I listen or read a book about history I am not looking for the author’s skewed insight in to modern politics. Rinker comes across as a snobbish northerner looking down his nose at anyone who is not a blue blood from New England. His self loathing over being white and over our country is spiced up with his elitist mentality towards his fellow man. As a person of color from the west that has transplanted to the south I do not believe his experiences with “racists”. I think he put those stories in to attract his type of people. He needs to understand that people don’t blatantly speak about such things even if they are real racists. Time have changed, but stories like this keep a bad narrative alive.
