Historia
Frederick Rutland was an accomplished aviator, British WWI war hero, and real-life James Bond. He was the first pilot to take off and land a plane on a ship, a decorated warrior for his feats of bravery and rescue, was trusted by the admirals of the Royal Navy, had a succession of aeronautical inventions, and designed the first modern aircraft carrier. He was perhaps the most famous early twentieth-century naval aviator. Despite all of this, and due mostly to class politics, Rutland was not promoted in the new Royal Air Force in the wake of WWI.

Fascinating & interesting look at the history & various individuals leading up to the bombing of Pearl Harbor. It is obvious many intelligence mistakes were made which raises the question “What would have happened if . . “ on so many different levels & perspectives. We will never know because history is the past and cannot be changed.

Millions of Amor Towles fans are in for a treat as he shares some of his shorter fiction: six stories based in New York City and a novella set in Golden Age Hollywood. The New York stories, most of which take place around the year 2000, consider the fateful consequences that can spring from brief encounters and the delicate mechanics of compromise that operate at the heart of modern marriages.

Historia
On November 6, 1860, Abraham Lincoln became the fluky victor in a tight race for president. The country was bitterly at odds; Southern extremists were moving ever closer to destroying the Union, with one state after another seceding and Lincoln powerless to stop them. Slavery fueled the conflict, but somehow the passions of North and South came to focus on a lonely federal fortress in Charleston Harbor: Fort Sumter.

Enlighten addition to my knowledge of civil war
Revisado: 05-28-24
This piece of history increased my understanding of the circumstances that led to the civil war including perspectives from both south & north. I like the documentation by first hand accounts of the various characters in the book. It will become an excellent reference to those wishing to gain an in-depth view of events leading up to the civil war.

Comprehensive review of the European air effort of WWII.
Revisado: 04-30-24
The detail and background provided was outstanding. The book was very thorough. War is terrible and the factual nature of the book did not sugar coat what happened. Our nation and all people who believe in democracy deserve our grateful thanks to all who served. It should remind us all of the dangers we still face today of people who seek power. We must be vigilant in preserving what they fought for!

Historia
The time is 1933, the place, Berlin, when William E. Dodd becomes America’s first ambassador to Hitler’s Germany in a year that proved to be a turning point in history. A mild-mannered professor from Chicago, Dodd brings along his wife, son, and flamboyant daughter, Martha. At first Martha is entranced by the parties and pomp, and the handsome young men of the Third Reich with their infectious enthusiasm for restoring Germany to a position of world prominence. Enamored of the “New Germany,” she has one affair after another....

Glimpse into History
Revisado: 11-21-23
A very interesting piece of history and background into the events leading up to World War II. This history is important because history has a way of repeating itself in spite of the warnings of those not caught in the propaganda of those willing to do “anything” to get or stay in power. Highly recommend this book for those interested and committed to democracy instead of being autocrats / personal power.

The best-selling author of Truman and John Adams, David McCullough has written profiles of exceptional men and women past and present who have not only shaped the course of history or changed how we see the world but whose stories express much that is timeless about the human condition. Here are Alexander von Humboldt, whose epic explorations of South America surpassed the Lewis and Clark expedition; Harriet Beecher Stowe, "the little woman who made the big war”....
