I thought the narrator made this story lively and interesting for me. It may not have been the same if I had read it myself.

Historia
Ever since Emma read Pride and Prejudice, she's been in love with Mr. Darcy and has regarded Jane Austen as the expert on all things romantic. So, naturally, when Emma falls for Blake Hampton and he invites her home to meet his parents, she is positive an engagement is in her future. After all, Blake is a single man in possession of a good fortune, and thus must be in want of a wife. But when it turns out that what Blake actually wants is more of a hook-up than a honeymoon, Emma is hurt, betrayed, and furious.

Good and then so-so.
Revisado: 06-30-21
I enjoyed this book. It was a good story. I struggled with the ending. I'm glad there was a happy ever after, but I struggled with the immaturity of the hero. Don't get me wrong, I really liked him. But I was just as upset as the heroine with his stubborn insecurities. but like I said I got my happy ending and that's what really matters. I've listened to several audio books with this narrator. She has grown on me. It's taken me some time 2 get accustomed 2 her voice especially when she does the men. I have gotten used to it though and now it is of little consequence. I've grown to enjoy listening to her. So, this is a good book and decent narration. Worth the listen

Too old for steampunk?
Revisado: 06-09-21
In my mid-forties I thought that I was too old for steampunk oh, but thought I'd just give this audiobook a chance. by the time I realized what terrible creatures where in the story I was so enraptured with the Earl and his budding Romance with Ivy. I had to keep reading. I found that the characters and they're genuine love for each other and their families soften the edges to make the mystery beautiful.

Jack would rather be at sea than fixing the mistakes of his grandfather, the late Earl of Stansworth. Instead, he finds that inheriting his grandfather's wealth and title and securing the welfare of his sister and mother means joining the ranks of high society and living with the aristocracy. Luckily, Ivy Carslisle, the granddaughter of a dear friend of Jack's late grandmother, is willing to teach him etiquette and properly introduce him into society.

Love, not love.
Revisado: 05-31-21
The story concept and the historical Scottish backdrop were enchanting. The characters were interesting and the relationships were sweet... too sweet. I found much of the conversations unbelievable in light of the time period, war and murder. One minute a kidnapping or war and the next a sweet interaction as if I were listening to two different stories that accidentally got stirred together. I want to love the story because it has all the elements of a great story, but since it seemed like it wasn't quite the final draft I will settle for liking the story with higher hopes for the next in the series.
The narrator had a lovely Scottish accent, real or not, that was mesmerizing ... too mesmerizing. The Male voices sounded almost like a whisper which was nice and calming. When there is war and shouting a whisper doesn't really excite. So again, I want to love the beautiful narrative, but with the incongruity to action, I will settle for liking the audio.
Overall I really liked this audio book.

Historia
Lord Elliott Mayfield sees the new generation of his family moving in the same direction of bad matches and scandalous relationships as the last. In hopes to change their course, he establishes a "marriage campaign" to motivate them to improve themselves through making respectable matches. Peter, Elliott's eldest nephew, thinks the entire idea is ridiculous. A widower with two young daughters, he simply needs a governess, not a wife. Julia Hollingsworth has the credentials and the experience, but is too young and pretty for such a job. So why can't he stop thinking about her?

sigh
Revisado: 05-22-21
That is the sigh that comes from the warm, fuzzy feeling after the happy ending. I really enjoyed this sweet book. The characters struggles were more internal than circumstantial, making this story less action packed than the average tortured romance. there were several main characters that provided lovely rabbit trails that I was delighted to follow.

Sweet and gently inspirational
Revisado: 05-19-21
I thought ashes on the Moor was sweet and gently inspirational. the story was lovely with the friendship that steadily grew between the characters. I found the struggles in the story less pushy than many of similar vein, other than the initial drop off. I like that because they felt more relatable . I did have some unanswered questions at the end of the book. That made the closure just a wee bit less gratifying than it could have been.
the narrator has a lovely voice and read the story well. I don't particularly like the way she puts the male voices. That, however, is more a matter of my own opinion and less a matter of her performance. The various accents were navigated beautifully. Overall I was enthralled in the story and the narration. I didn't want it to end.

overall I really liked the sheriff's of savage Wells. I had read these books out of order and read the next one first. I liked the next one so much I wanted to read this one. Despite the over sappy moments at times, I reveled in I love story. I also enjoyed the supporting characters. it left me wondering if there are even more books about this town.
