This started my love of Diana Gabaldon books!
Revisado: 02-12-13
Would you listen to Outlander again? Why?
I have read this book numerous times, and will listen to it probably many times. Especially each time a new one in the series comes out. I never tire of Jamie and Claire. I love being able to listen in my car. I can pick up anywhere in the story and enjoy it.
What other book might you compare Outlander to and why?
I don't know if any books that I am as attached to like this.
What does Davina Porter bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
She is able to make each character individual.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It makes me laugh each time and cry too.
Any additional comments?
Eventually I will have all in the series on audio like I do in hardcopy.

Historia
Picking up from A Discovery of Witches' cliff-hanger ending, Shadow of Night takes reluctant witch Diana Bishop and vampire geneticist Matthew Clairmont on a trip through time to Elizabethan London, where they are plunged into a world of spies, magic, and a coterie of Matthew's old friends, the School of Night. As the search for Ashmole 782—the lost and enchanted manuscript whose mystery first pulled Diana and Matthew into one another's orbit—deepens and Diana seeks out a witch to tutor her in magic, the net of Matthew's past tightens around them.

It seemed to go on forever & nothing was happened
Revisado: 12-13-12
Would you try another book from Deborah Harkness and/or Jennifer Ikeda?
Overall I liked the first book and wanted to see where it would, but the writing style was just so slow moving I don't think I will look for any more.
What do you think your next listen will be?
I am into the Sookie Stackhouse books right now.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Jennifer Ikeda?
Sure. The narrating was fine

Historia
While Abraham Lincoln is widely lauded for saving a Union and freeing millions of slaves, his valiant fight against the forces of the undead has remained in the shadows for hundreds of years. That is, until Seth Grahame-Smith stumbled upon The Secret Journal of Abraham Lincoln, and became the first living person to lay eyes on it in more than 140 years.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
If the story would move along more quickly. I kept waiting to hear what the big secret was but finally just lost interest.

Historia
Between 1485 and 1688, England became a Protestant country under Henry VIII. His daughter, Elizabeth I, battled for succession and supremacy at home, and the discovery of 'the round world' enabled a vast continent across the Atlantic to be explored. While this new era was spawning the beginnings of modern America, England was engaged in a bloody civil war and sustained a Republican experiment under the leadership of Oliver Cromwell.

Great way to get context to the history I love

Would you listen to The New World again? Why?
Yes. I would listen to it to put happenings in perspective when I am reading/listening to other historical books be they fiction or non-fiction. I found myself thinking of what I heard on my way to work throughout the day.
I have read books that are related to the invasion by the Romans, and the War of the Roses, etc., and now I understand how those events came to be and the impact they had on the people and government of England.
