Historia
On the treacherous streets of Riverside, a man lives and dies by the sword. Even the nobles on the Hill turn to duels to settle their disputes. Within this elite, dangerous world, Richard St. Vier is the undisputed master, as skilled as he is ruthless--until a death by the sword is met with outrage instead of awe, and the city discovers that the line between hero and villain can be altered in the blink of an eye.

The story was boring
Revisado: 04-24-24
I listened for two and a half hours, but I just could not get interested. The production was great, but the story was boring. I didn’t finish it.

I was so disgusted with the dimwit MC that I couldn’t finish the book. It was completely unbelievable that anyone is that stupid.

After a tumultuous period in American politics, a new administration has just been sworn in, and to everyone’s surprise the president chooses a political enemy for the vital position of secretary of state. There is no love lost between the president of the United States and Ellen Adams, his new secretary of state. But it’s a canny move on the part of the president. Read the book instead of listening to it.
Revisado: 12-19-21
Like I usually do, I bought both the Kindle book and the audiobook and went back and forth reading and listening. The book is great, but the narrator for the audiobook is awful - she botched it completely. She reads too slowly (I was tempted to listen at a faster speed), she emphasizes the wrong word in sentences which changes the meaning and sounds choppy. She couldn’t change her voice so I couldn’t tell her characters apart. She didn’t even attempt accents. The British Prime Minister had an American accent!
I know it is difficult for narrators to do voices of the opposite sex - but the good ones can do it. She could not. All of the characters in the book sounded like American women. It’s really too bad, because the book is very good.

Historia
Julie Weathers isn't sure if she's running away or starting over, but moving to a remote island off the coast of Maine feels right for someone with reasons to flee her old life. The sun-washed, sea-stormed speck of land seems welcoming, the lobster plentiful, and the community close and tightly knit. She finds friends in her nearest neighbor and Callum, a man who appears to be using the island for the same thing as she: escape. But soon she comes to suspect that she may have traded one place shrouded in trouble for another.

Boring with bad dialogue
Revisado: 08-21-20
This book is waaay too slow. I RARELY don't finish a book, but I finally gave up. The dialogue between Julie and her husband rang false and unbelievable. The reading isn't very good either. I listened to this while driving and almost fell asleep at the wheel.

Terrible Narrator Ruins Great Book
Revisado: 09-22-17
This narrator is too old for this book. Many of the characters are teenagers and they sound 40 years old. His female characters sound absurd. Also it's impossible to tell the difference between what a character is thinking to themself and saying out loud. To really know what's going on, you'll have to read the book instead of listening to it.

Historia
Winter is coming. Such is the stern motto of House Stark, the northernmost of the fiefdoms that owe allegiance to King Robert Baratheon in far-off King's Landing. There Eddard Stark of Winterfell rules in Robert's name. Far to the north, behind the towering Wall, lie savage Wildings and worse - unnatural things relegated to myth during the centuries-long summer, but proving all too real and all too deadly in the turning of the season. Yet a more immediate threat lurks to the south, where Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King, has died under mysterious circumstances....

Skip this even if you love Laura Kinsale
Revisado: 07-06-17
I LOVE Laura Kinsale's books, but this is like the first draft of a book that needs a LOT of work. It was meandering and disjointed and amateurish. Much of the book just didn't make any sense. It's too bad, because the basic premise is intriguing. Read any other book she's written instead of this one.
Nicholas Boutin was an outstanding narrator, as always.
