I really enjoyed listening to the show I just have one concern. There was a hospice nurse that called in and your personalities recommended her sell one of her cars. I understand that that would be ideal in most situations and she was struggling with Dept. However, this is her livelihood that she drives 65,000 plus miles a year. She needs a spare vehicle because if her vehicle breaks down or it has to be in the shop for significant amount of time she needs another vehicle that she can use without having to rent another vehicle while waiting for her car to get out of the shop. Not all insurance plans cover rentals. I've been a hospice nurse for 8 years I have two vehicles I do maintenance on one and drive it for 6 months and then I do a maintenance check on the other drive it for 6 months . Both paid for in cash. When you have a job that requires a lot of travel that is more financially sound especially since both cars are paid off. Now I fear that she's going to have a wreck or have significant maintenance needing to be done to her car and she's going to be out of the car and out of a way to work. I would have recommended that since both cars are paid off to keep both cars rotate them out so that they don't require maintenance as fast which will save money. and pay dept off other ways like life style changes. In her situation on anyone driving that much having a spare car should be considered part of her emergency fund. In my career, I've had three wrecks while on the road doing hospice care and thankfully I've been able to put my car in the shop and I have another vehicle to drive so I can continue to work without having to worry. I don't have to fight insurance to get a rental or I don't have to pay extra money to use a rental so that I can continue to work. I've got two other co-workers that do the same thing I do. they've got two vehicles that rotate out every few months. it's a pretty common thing for home health and hospice nurses to do this. I hope you all will take this into consideration when giving advice to other people who their vehicle is absolutely vital part of their job.
