A good story but too many characters that didn’t come together
Revisado: 06-15-19
*contains spoilers!*
I did like this book but it just felt like there were too many characters and storylines that weren’t developed. I wanted to learn more about Estella’s mother, and Estella’s relationship with Sam after Alex. And what about Janey? She and Estella were obviously lifelong friends, but I wanted to hear more about that.

Genuine and moving
Revisado: 02-18-19
Absolutely loved this—Michelle’s genuine and empathetic nature is so palpable throughout this book. She seamlessly puts together stories of her childhood in Chicago, speaks candidly of her marriage and of being a mother, and her journey as a political spouse and as First Lady. Her journey is so inspiring and the words almost leap out of the pages—her ability to have such power and to remain so relatable is moving.

Beautiful story of trauma, family, and the wilderness of Alaska
Revisado: 04-20-18
Another brilliant and beautiful story by Kristin Hannah! This was a story of war and PTSD, of domestic violence, the strength and resilience of survivors, mother/daughter bonds, and young love. Captivating from the very beginning. The Nightingale is still by far my favorite Kristin Hannah story, but I loved this one as well!

Historia
Lucy Barton is recovering slowly from what should have been a simple operation. Her mother, to whom she hasn’t spoken for many years, comes to see her. Gentle gossip about people from Lucy’s childhood in Amgash, Illinois, seems to reconnect them, but just below the surface lie the tension and longing that have informed every aspect of Lucy’s life: her escape from her troubled family, her desire to become a writer, her marriage, her love for her two daughters. Knitting this powerful narrative together is the brilliant storytelling voice of Lucy herself.

Just couldn’t get into this
Revisado: 03-02-18
I really couldn’t get into this book, even from the very beginning. It wasn’t a very dynamic story with so much of it being told while she was in the hospital. I especially didn’t like her mother’s endless rambling in the beginning.

As other reviewers mentioned, being in Caroline’s head and listening to the complaining gets old fast. Really didn’t enjoy this book much.

Not as good as Anne of Green Gables!
Revisado: 12-19-17
It was nice to hear a continuation of Anne’s story but it is just no comparison to the original Anne of green gables. I also didn’t care for the narrator—he was pretty monotonous and dry.

Historia
With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

Such an enchanting story!
Revisado: 07-11-17
What a beautiful, tragic story that tells the story of WWII that we rarely hear--how French women were involved in the resistance during the Nazi occupation of France. This also is a beautiful stories of families--how wounds can tear us apart but ultimately bring us closer together.
