Historia
Lifestyle journalist Katrine escaped past traumas by moving to a coast renowned for seaside holidays and natural beauty. But when a vast hoard of human remains and prehistoric artifacts is discovered in nearby Brickburgh, a hideous shadow engulfs her life. Helene, a disillusioned lone parent, lost her brother, Lincoln, six years ago. Disturbing subterranean noises he recorded prior to vanishing, draw her to Brickburgh's caves. A site where early humans butchered each other across 60,000 years. Upon the walls, images of their nameless gods remain.

Very well written!

Strong characters. Good, propulsive story. Well read, accents could have been a little better, But overall, fantastic.

Historia
Money's tight and their new home is a fixer-upper. Deep in rural South West England, with an ancient wood at the foot of the garden, Tom and his family are miles from anywhere and anyone familiar. His wife, Fiona, was never convinced that buying the money-pit at auction was a good idea. Not least because the previous owner committed suicide. Though no one can explain why.

Good, not great.
Revisado: 03-25-24
With so few characters, and a fairly straight forward plot, it was too long. It’s very uneven in the last Act, as if the author didn’t quite know how he wanted to it to end. Felt like listening to a 9 hour elevator pitch for a movie.

Historia
Istanbul, 1840: the new sultan, Abdulmecid, has heard a rumor that Bellini's vanished masterpiece---a portrait of Mehmed the Conqueror - may have resurfaced in Venice. Yashim, our eunuch detective, is promptly sent to investigate, but - aware that the sultan's advisers are against any extravagant repurchase of the painting - decides to deploy his disempowered Polish ambassador friend, Palewski, to visit Venice in his stead.

A tremendously entertaining novel (& production)
Revisado: 03-22-22
If you are looking for a ripping good yarn; action-packed, with an exquisitely rendered setting & atmosphere. With characters- large & small- all richly drawn by the author, and given voice by the narrator, Stephen Hoye: One can scarcely do better than giving “The Bellini Card” a try. If you enjoyed this, I highly recommend all of J. Goodwin’s Yashim series.
