I like Leslie Gould’s writing, but she’s always killing her characters off with cancer. Never any mention of Christ’s sacrifice for our healing.

The intricacies of God’s plans are amazing. A reminder that He is working out such a plan in our time. The inclusion of a wonderful love story satisfies my romantic heart, and serves as another reminder of the love of God working in the lives of individuals in the midst of His vast purposes.

I’m on chapter 16 & it’s pretty bad. A psychotic king, a self absorbed teenager, and a vengeful queen who enjoys cutting off body parts. This trash should not be called “Biblical” fiction. There’s nothing Biblical or uplifting about it. Total disappointment.

I have loved listening to this series, getting a glimpse into the lives of people truly living their lives for God. Threaded with humour and suspense, all 3 books kept me intrigued throughout. I have read Judith Miller's Pullman series as well and thoroughly enjoyed those too. Stina Nielson is a very talented narrator making the listener enjoy every word.

What made the experience of listening to An Untamed Land the most enjoyable?

I'm on book 4 of the Red River series and have enjoyed all of them, though the first one was somewhat sad. It amazes me that early settlers survived at all since homesteading was so difficult on the prairie back then. You come to care about the characters as you go through the books, and good things do happen so it is worth sticking with the series. Now I can't wait to see what will happen to the main characters from one book to the next.

Would you be willing to try another one of Callie Beaulieu’s performances?

I only listen to her because there seems no alternative narrator for this series, and I love the series so I put up with her poor narration.

Any additional comments?

Lauraine Snelling is an excellent writer, but I feel that Callie Beaulieu doesn't give the story justice. She doesn't do any voices for any characters - one sounding exactly like the the others, and most of the time she speaks with an insistent voice that doesn't reflect the emotion of the character. She neglects to pause in areas that definitely call for a pause, so sometimes I find myself rewinding to catch the gist, since she jumped from one topic/event to another with hardly a breath in-between. You get used to it after awhile, but I think a more talented narrator could have really brought these books to life, and made the listening experience so much more enjoyable. The fact that I've stuck with the series even though disliking the performance of the narrator speaks to the excellence on Lauraine Snelling's ability to spin a tale worth reading.

I couldn't get past the frist chapter. Sounds like it is written by an adolescent boy who talks trash in an attempt to impress older boys. It is hard to believe John Sandford found a publisher. The narration is a gravelly-voiced monotone. Don't waste a credit on this one.

Dick Francis delivers his usual excellence in murder mysteries, but Martin Jarvis does not hold a candle to Tony Britton in his narration. The nasal voice is not pleasant to listen to, and he doesn't distinguish characters very well. The emotion/inflection you would expect in most passages is off. Plus, the female characters tend to sound irritated and impatient, even when they are flirting, which is ridiculous. Unfortunately the performance detracts from the enjoyment of the book, which is an excellent story with mouth-dropping surprises. If Felix Francis is to follow in his father's foorsteps, he needs to find a better narrator for the audio versions of his books.

Excellent book, poor narrator

This is the second Gabriel Allon book of Daniel Silva's I've read, and even though I liked the storyline in this one better, the listen was not as enjoyable. John Lee seems to get his accents mixed up and it is often difficult to distinguish which characters are talking. His reading is the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars.

I'm hooked on the Gabriel Allon series. One other reviewer said they didn't like the finish, but I liked it, found it very poignant, and had tears in my eyes at the end. I agree that I would have liked to have a little more detail in the wrapping up, but all in all a good novel. I listened every chance I got...couldn't put it down.

Unfortunately the next 2 Gabriel Allon books in the series are also narrated by John Lee, but the books are so good, I'm willing to put up with the weird narration. Hopefully his accents will not be too mixed up in the next one.
