Historia
Tom Thrush thinks basic officer training is tough until he joins the frigate Kestrel and finds out what tough really means. The crew resents him. The first officer is actively hostile. As the ship hunts pirates in deep space, Tom struggles to fit in and wonders if things can get any worse. They can. A devastating attack leaves the ship crippled with half the crew dead or dying. The senior officers are wiped out, leaving a terrified sublieutenant in the last place he wants to be.

Historia
When COVID-19 sweeps through New York City, Jamie Gray is stuck as a dead-end driver for food-delivery apps. That is, until Jamie makes a delivery to an old acquaintance, Tom, who works at what he calls “an animal rights organization”. Tom’s team needs a last-minute grunt to handle things on their next field visit. Jamie, eager to do anything, immediately signs on. What Tom doesn't tell Jamie is that the animals his team cares for are not here on Earth. Not our Earth, at at least. In an alternate dimension, dinosaur-like creatures named Kaiju roam a warm and human-free world.

Not his best work.
Revisado: 07-27-22
I really love some of Scalzis work. Old mans war is an absolute favorite I have read many times.
I had really high hopes for this book but it felt rushed and unfinished and just a bit flat. Which is a shame as the premise for the story is fun and just unbeleivable enough.
Wheaton gives a good performance and saves the story a bit.

Historia
The Confederation consists of the seven oldest races in known space. They control a vast section of the galaxy. All races in that part of the galaxy are subjects of the Confederation and forced to obey the Confederation’s laws. The Human Empire is well aware of the Confederation and has been careful not to intrude upon Confederation space. However, now the Confederation has decided the Human Empire has grown too large and needs to be brought under control of the seven races.

Mixed bag but mostly a bit flat.
Revisado: 02-18-21
I listened to the entire book because I wanted yo know how it finished. I was however irritated almost all the way through. The speakers voice was bland and unenthusiastic. The sound editing is amateurish. But sadly the worst thing is the lack of detail in the story. The story is very linear and frankly seems to discount human psychology entirely. Possible major plot twists are simply ignored by method of "and everything worked out fine."
I am vaguely dissapointed.

Historia
When former soldier Everett Cole signed on to help colony planets prepare for joining the Federation, his employers were more than a bit vague about their identity and his duties. Ditto when - 11 light-years from Earth - he met his partner, Edgar Millen, an enigmatic man with a fetish for the mythology and language of the American Wild West. It wasn’t until they reached the colony world of Astrild that the mission became clear (somewhat). Cole and Millen were hired guns, tasked with removing impediments to order and justice - the methodology left open-ended.

A great listen
Revisado: 04-01-19
Olan Thorensen delivers an entertaining prelude to a a hopefully long series of books. No great mental heavy lifting, just a good entertaining listen.
Enjoy

Great story, bad voice actor
Revisado: 09-21-17
I really like the story and will buy the next book. The voice actor on the other hand has a very very intense voice that is hard to listen to. not relaxing at all and hard to concentrate on what he is saying instead of how he is saying it.
