Strong military sci fi story, and the writing is really good. Great character development, though the narrator doesn't always do them justice. Its still a really polished audiobook, would recommend.

Stephen brings the story to life!

The cast of characters with accents from around the world would be daunting for most performers, but Stephen's performance just has a way of bringing out the best parts of every moment. And the way he grows and develops the personalities of the main characters throughout the novel just takes it to another level! Great work!!

Good adolescent friendventure

The main feature of the story is the dynamic between the friends. Enjoyed the banter between characters and the scifi elements were well established.

Start of a New Chapter

A lot of people are blasting this book for being slow, and too focused on relationships. That lacks appreciation for what this book really is.

Book 10 completed an epic story arc that takes humanity from its hidey hole and into the greater galactic events. That arc showed how Bishop and others gained the skills, technology, and contacts they need to perform on that galactic stage.

At that point, the story could have been shelved. The main plot was wrapped with a satisfying, believable, compelling ending- and a few threads that could be explored further but didn't need to be. Books 1 through 10 were completed well.

This story resets the counter. It's a reintroduction to the new status quo... the new humanity... the new Merry Band of Pirates... and somehow it's still just another Tuesday.

a bit weird, but still going

It seems a bit weird to me that the narrator skims lightly over several atrocities against sentient non-aggressors, but in the end I enjoyed the book enough to keep going on to the next one.

If it wasn't for the almost preachy free-sex sections, this would be just as amazing as the first story. overall its a great book.

I struggled to suspend disbelief for this story, as the entire thing is founded on an exaggeration of the principals of EMP.
