Historia
As one of the few black students in his philosophy program at Columbia University years ago, Coleman Hughes wondered why his peers seemed more pessimistic about the state of American race relations than his own grandparents–who lived through segregation. The End of Race Politics is the culmination of his years-long search for an answer.

Excellent discussion of color blind politics
Revisado: 09-18-24
This is a rational discourse of racial politics, the harms of affirmative action, and a just path forward. A must read. Unfortunately the people who most need to read it (the DEI and “antiracist”
ideologues) are the least likely to read it. Well performed, too.

Historia
When a drug-addled Hunter Biden abandoned his waterlogged computer at a Mac repair shop in Delaware in the spring of 2019, just six days before his father announced his candidacy for the United States presidency, it became the ticking time bomb in the shadows of Joe Biden’s campaign.

Alarming story about the Biden clan
Revisado: 10-15-23
This book provides insights into the Biden family which are sickening and tragic but also alarming. The blatant influence peddling is at the very least unethical. Then vice president Joe Biden strong armed the Ukrainian government into firing the prosecutor who was investigating the corrupt energy company, Burisma, which at the the time was paying Hunter Biden over $80,000 a month. Burisma hired Hunter who had no qualifications but provided access to Joe Biden. This access paid off handsomely when Joe forced the ouster of the prosecutor essentially ending the investigation into Burisma. With the cooperation of the FBI, the CIA, Facebook, Twitter, and major newspapers the story of Hunter’s laptop was suppressed and discredited just before the 2020 presidential election. This may have altered the outcome of the election. These shenanigans make Watergate look like child’s play. This is a fascinating view into how Joe Biden thinks and operates.

Historia
Golden Globe nominee Scarlett Johansson ( Lost in Translation, Girl with a Pearl Earring) brings a palpable sense of joy and exuberance to her performance of Lewis Carroll's enduring classic Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. The young and imaginative Alice grows weary of her storybook, one "without pictures or conversations", and follows a hasty hare underground - to come face to face with a host of strange and fantastic characters.

Historia
Leading a cultural revolution driven by identity politics and so-called 'social justice', the new puritanism movement is best understood as a religion - one that makes grand claims to moral purity and tolerates no dissent. In The New Puritans, Andrew Doyle powerfully examines the underlying belief-systems of this ideology and how it has risen so rapidly to dominate all major political, cultural and corporate institutions. He reasons that, to move forward, we need to understand where these New Puritans came from and what they hope to achieve.

Eloquent and masterful
Revisado: 09-21-23
Andrew Doyle’s writing is a pleasure both because of his mastery of the English language and his ability to make a lucid argument. His vast vocabulary is used not in a boastful manner, but rather each word perfectly fits the situation so the prose easily flows. He has a knack for making analogies which are spot on. Drawing from his knowledge of literature and history he provides humorous as well as terrifying examples to illustrate his points. His voice is clear and expressive denoting a polished performer. I found myself frequently rewinding just for the pleasure of listening again to a passage or to jot down a phrase or quotation. I wish I could have had him as one of my college professors. Beyond the artistry is a cogent argument against post modernism and the religion of its proponents. Although hazardous to do so he makes a strong case for why it is imperative to speak up to oppose this illiberal movement. This is a pleasurable read on a timely subject.

Don’t waste your time
Revisado: 06-07-23
These stories are depressing and unfulfilling. The characters are not admirable. At the conclusion of each story there is no resolution. There are much better ways to spend your time than reading or listening to these dreary tales.

Good descriptions of depression

This book is at its best when describing individuals’ experiences of their depression. It is at its weakest when discussing drugs, their classifications, dissing pharmaceutical companies, and suggesting benefits of natural products. An interesting book, but not highly recommended.

Historia
The Mill on the Floss is one of the great works of English literature. It is perhaps the most autobiographical of all Eliot's novels. The relationship between its heroine, Maggie Tulliver, and her brother, Tom, closely resembles that of George Eliot and her own brother, Isaac. The subject of sibling affection was clearly a deeply poignant one for George Eliot - she also wrote a series of beautiful and evocative sonnets entitled 'Brother and Sister'.

Historia
Ulysses S. Grant's life has typically been misunderstood. All too often he is caricatured as a chronic loser and an inept businessman or as the triumphant but brutal Union general of the Civil War. But these stereotypes don't come close to capturing him, as Chernow reveals in his masterful biography, the first to provide a complete understanding of the general and president whose fortunes rose and fell with dizzying speed and frequency.

A Spiritual and Philosophical Tour-de-Force

Dostoyevsky’s prescient genius shines bright
Revisado: 09-07-22
This mesmerizing complex tale is written with brilliance. Constantine Gregory’s narration does it justice and doesn’t get in the way of the tale. The characters are caricatures of human characteristics rather than like people one might meet in the streets; similar to the gods in Greek mythology or a Dickens novel. Dostoyevsky eerily foreshadows the Russian revolution, the horrors of Marxism, the rise of scientism and devilish worship of the intellect, and the decline of religion and spirituality. Here also are found the shallow ideologues so common today who can only parrot their ideology without any original thoughts of their own. A profound masterpiece.
