Historia
In this stirring and true story, Gunther, a handicapped and neglected child, born in Germany during World War I, finds a new home at Bethel, a Christian community for the physically and mentally impaired. At Bethel, Gunther learns to speak and sing, walk and work, and pray and praise. Through the care of pastors, deaconesses, and teachers, Gunther finds meaning and purpose in music, thanksgiving, friendship, and the everyday exercise of a life lived well, no matter the limitations. But, the love and security of Bethel is threatened by the Nazi regime, as it targets the vulnerable.

What a beautiful story of Christian love!!
Revisado: 03-14-23
I've already listened to this book twice and enjoyed it so much. I sang along with the hymns and cried tears of joy when Gunther experienced love for the first time. I cannot say enough good things about this book. Praise God from whom all blessings flow!!

Using his experience as a speechwriter, Barton Swaim tells the story of a band of believers who attach themselves to this sort of ambitious narcissist.

this book was touted as hilarious. i found it rather sad and depressing that the author would stay in a job he found so frustrating and unrewarding

Bad narrator
Revisado: 04-10-18
The book is very good and helpful but suffers greatly from bad narration. The narrator has a monotone voice and often puts emphasis on the wrong part of the sentence, a minor annoyance at first but increasingly so later on.

As a family member of a young adult with schizoaffective disorder, this book was scary, encouraging, uplifting and rang true on so many levels. I highly recommend this to anyone struggling to understand this disorder.
