This is one of those stories that just plain worked. The characters were compelling, the storyline interesting, and the setting just believable enough.

I loved the whole series until the last few chapters and the epilogue it was frustrating and depressing. The only way to give specifics is to create a spoiler and I really don't want to do that

Of course all fiction is contrived. But great fiction doesn't FEEL contrived. Normally he can fit anachronisms and social commentary into the plot line and character development without forcing it. There were two major character development paths that just felt wrong like he didn't believe it himself or he didn't know how to explain it well
And I've never seen that before in any of these books.

I understand it took a long time for this to come out and this is a very large work. Maybe it should have been two works and he could have put some Focus into smoothing out those contrivances.

I am still a huge fan but those two contrivances made the work feel rough and unfinished.

his level of foreshadowing pretty much gave away the ending. that didn't make it less enjoyable but it was a bit frustrating

I was a child in 1968 when this story is set and it did a decent job of capturing the mood of the era..

little things like phrases that became popular in the '80s like "awesome" we're not used. the culture war was a lot more complicated even to my 6-year-old eyes than what was presented here. that's why I got a four rather than a five. Because the base story works.

Sue Grafton, read by Judy Kaye never fails to please. the story has all the things you come to expect from Sue Grafton.

I've never been disappointed by any of Sue Grafton's alphabet Mysteries. and Judy Kay is the only narrator who can do her justice

I was expecting something like the St Mary's series from Jodi Taylor. Boy was I ever wrong.

it did show how bureaucracy can dull even the most exciting of topics. It's probably realistic from that point of view, time travel people from the past people trying to kill you, complex relationships.

it's like a recipe with all your favorite ingredients with incredibly poor mixing and cooking.

The no doubt realistic depiction of an oppressive bureaucratic atmosphere just suck the life out of the entire story.

the title is misleading. it's about swing trading not specifically swing trading with options. a substantial part of the book is spent preaching at you about addiction and lifestyle and caution. and frankly it's insulting. I bought the book to learn about swing trading options not about swing trading in general and not about the dangers of enjoying trading too much

This wasn't even a cliffhanger it just ended. It wasn't a book it was a very long preview. Oh yes the murderer was ultimately identified but it was so obvious from the first time the character was introduced. Given the author's credentials, honestly this is the most disappointing story I can think of in a long time from Audible.
