Historia
Tamsyn Muir’s Gideon the Ninth unveils a solar system of swordplay, cut-throat politics, and lesbian necromancers. Her characters leap out of the audio, as skillfully animated as arcane revenants. The result is a heart-pounding epic science fantasy. Brought up by unfriendly, ossifying nuns, ancient retainers, and countless skeletons, Gideon is ready to abandon a life of servitude and an afterlife as a reanimated corpse.

Fun. Not art, very gory, but 100% fun.

The writing left so much to be desired
Revisado: 08-14-23
So many out of place pop culture refrences and badly executed bad jokes (sometimes even repeated, like that would make a bad dry joke better). It was a struggle to get through and i just cannot imagine Gideons motivations for doing literally anything but the one thing of deciding to comply in the beginning of the book since she really had no other option, none of her other actions or decisions make sense to me for the rest of the book. I was extremely dissapointed.

Historia
Oxford, 1836. The city of dreaming spires. It is the centre of all knowledge and progress in the world. And at its centre is Babel, the Royal Institute of Translation. The tower from which all the power of the Empire flows. Orphaned in Canton and brought to England by a mysterious guardian, Babel seemed like paradise to Robin Swift. Until it became a prison. But can a student stand against an empire?

Slow start but oh was it worth it
Revisado: 07-19-23
I don’t think i would have gotten through half of the book manually but as an audiobook it went swimmingly and all the setup and worldbuilding was worth it in the end. The story really sped up after the halfway point and i was on the edge of my seat for the whole end of it after that!
