This is my favorite trilogy. The second one is kind of annoying when Pressia's part is being narrated because of the way she reads the stupid "Ghostly Girls" poem because it repeats over 10 times throughout the book and the narrator makes me skip over it every time. Besides that, I love it and adore all of the characters and the depictions of this hellish world both inside the dome and outside in the world blown to ash.
I absolutely adore Helmud in this book. The narrator brings him and El Capitan to life in a heartwarming and hilarious way that you don't get from just reading the book.

Best Post Apocalyptic Dystopian Fiction Trilogy

I have been obsessed with this trilogy since I read the first book, Pure, nearly 10 years ago. Since then, I have patiently waited for the 2nd and 3rd books and bought both immediately upon their releases. I also waited for its popularity to blow up, as to me it compares to The Hunger Games and,The Forest of Hands and Teeth. I think the fact that it is classified as an adult fiction instead of YA may have been detrimental to it not catching on in that aspect, but it is better than both of those trilogies. Julianna Baggott has developed amazing characters, making the reader fall in LOVE with Helmud and El Capitan, as well as the warrior band of Mothers, who are hated at the beginning due to their brutality, and also begin to severely dislike the two main characters Partridge and Pressia, who are set up to be the heroes but fail due to their selfish motives and immaturity, though not their fault as the decisions that are forced upon both as they are put into positions no 16 year old should ever be put into. The audiobooks bring this story to life a hundred times more than the book ever could, as it is told in revolving POVs and amazing actors voice each different one. The audiobook especially brings Helmud to life, as a character that has been so traumatized from the detonations and further traumatized by El Capitans previous treatment of him, he is only able to echo what other characters say to him. In the first book, it seems he can only echo the last words of his brothers every sentence, but through the 2nd and 3rd book we see that he is actually communicating, and the interactions between him and El Capitan made me laugh out loud 5 or 6 times. It is an amazing epic story that especially captured my imagination as a future that America could one day become in light of current events (maybe in a few thousand years) and it is as disturbing as it is endearing. Baggott was able to complete every characters story arc and connected every loose seam that I had not even noticed needed connecting as I was reading. this trilogy is amazing. DON'T MISS OUT!! It is so great I actually re-listened to it again immediately after I heard it on audible the first time. My favorite books of all time besides Harry Potter!!

if you like Hunger Games, Twilight, Stephen King, you will love this series. I read it 5 times and couldn't put it down. A must-read post-apocalyptic dystopian fiction series.

When I listened to Ready Player One, I finished it in one day because it was such a good read. Ready Player Two almost took me 2 weeks because I forgot I was listening to it. The story itself was much less amazing because plot focused mainly on the technology of the Oasis and many detailed descriptions about it, whereas the first book's focus was mainly on the characters and their relationships and struggles. H and Artie were barely a subplot and Wade was much less likeable than in the first book. The book introduceds a new generation of "Gunters" and that seemed so interesting at first, but it barely delved into those characters at all. I would read it if you have nothing else, but don't expect it to be as nearly spectacular as Ready Player One. Perhaps if they turn the movie into a sequel, they will do a better job building the characters. For me, it fell flat. If you do read it, I recommend piggy backing it immediately after reading Ready Player One, so that the passion and intensity felt in the first book might carry your own will and desire to get through the sequel.
