Historia
They destroy plant diseases. They break down toxins. They plough the earth. They transform forests. They’ve survived two mass extinctions, including the one that wiped out the dinosaur. Not bad for a creature that’s deaf, blind, and spineless. Who knew that earthworms were one of our planet’s most important caretakers? Or that Charles Darwin devoted his last years to studying their remarkable achievements?

Rascism packaged in science
Revisado: 08-16-24
I bought this because I teach gardening to kids and wanted to understand worms better. What I got was Nativist propaganda that belongs in WW2 Germany.
Are you suspicious of "foreigners" but it's not longer socially acceptable? Great news, you can direct your indignation to non-humans! By blaming the sicknesses of our Earth's forests on the natural and inevitable integration of species, you not only take the spotlight away from mass poison spraying of demonic corporations, you also are carrying the banner of colonisation for our most ignorant ancestors. We are one planet. If you think foreign species are a problem, go home.
I would be happy to not leave this here and just stay in my own lane but a glitch in Audible means I can't even return this garbage.
Do some research on glyphosate before absorbing any of this nonsense that has wormed in to our ideas of "Caring for Nature"

Historia
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

"The Subtle Art of Giving Up"
Revisado: 02-07-17
I really appreciate Mansons blog posts, and I see how this book would be useful for people in their 30s who are "settling down" and need a parachute cord to pull from the harrowing heights of western success expectations. But as someone in their 20s, I think reckless idealism is valuable. I probably will end up with a mildly mundane career, reprioritizing to more "sensible" goals. But for now, I'm going to believe that the world isn't totally and permanently fucked. Viva la Revolución!

Historia
This is a book about an almost universal anxiety that is rarely mentioned: an anxiety about what others think of us, about whether we're judged a success or a failure, a winner or a loser. This is a book about status anxiety. Best-selling author Alain de Botton asks, with lucidity and charm, where our worries about status come from and what, if anything, we can do to surmount them.

Second favourite book I've ever read
Revisado: 04-08-16
I've listened through about 4 times. Super insightful, and encouraging to anyone who is knocked down everyday with the bat that is system of materialism and discontent. I also appreciated the acknowledgement of Christian roots in Bohemia (in our often millitantly secular culture). I'll no doubt listen again in 6 months when I need smelling salts to wake me from the hypnosis that is status anxiety.
