Historia
When British journalist, memoirist, and New York-transplant Emma Brockes decides to become pregnant, she quickly realizes that, being single, 37, and in the early stages of a same-sex relationship, she's going to have to be untraditional about it. From the moment she decides to stop "futzing" around, have her eggs counted, and "get cracking"; through multiple rounds of IUI; to the births of her twins, which her girlfriend gamely documents with her iPhone and selfie stick, Brockes brings the listener every step of the way.

Everything I needed and more
Revisado: 04-30-24
I finished this book in three days. As a single actively pursuing motherhood, this book was everything I needed and more. Emma’s wit, authenticity, humor, and ability to put into words so much of what I’ve felt have been the sweetest of comforts. And a huge source of strength. I so wish I could meet Emma to express my gratitude and respect. I feel like I am in such great company. And if you are reading this Emma, know that you are a muthafuckin legend!!!!!! 💖💖💖

Historia
In 2011, a 26-year-old libertarian programmer named Ross Ulbricht launched the ultimate free market: the Silk Road, a clandestine website hosted on the Dark Web where anyone could trade anything - drugs, hacking software, forged passports, counterfeit cash, poisons - free of the government's watchful eye. It wasn't long before the media got wind of the new website where anyone - not just teenagers and weed dealers but terrorists and black hat hackers - could buy and sell contraband detection-free.

Outstanding journalism, writing, and story
Revisado: 02-10-24
This story just got gnarlier and gnarlier - it was hard to put down. I finished this book in just under four days. Nick Bilton is an incredible storyteller, and I am super eager to explore more of his writing, though it’s hard to imagine anything else being as good as this.

It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

Phenomenal. Did NOT want it to end!
Revisado: 12-21-22
What a beautiful story so beautifully written. I am a self-professed non-fiction junkie, who has recently entered the world of fiction, and I’m so glad that I have in large part because of this book. This story resonated with me in ways I did not expect. It’s full of heart, and narrated superbly. Did NOT want it to end! I’m looking forward to checking out Annabel’s other book The Joyce Girl.

Historia
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

Audie Award, Humor, 2016. In Furiously Happy, number-one New York Times best-selling author Jenny Lawson explores her lifelong battle with mental illness. A hysterical, ridiculous book about crippling depression and anxiety? That sounds like a terrible idea. But terrible ideas are what Jenny does best.

Devoured this book. I honestly think this is the funniest book I’ve ever read. And yet so incredibly heartfelt. SO happy to have discovered Jenny and all her brilliance. She shows us/me what it looks like to embrace some of the most challenging aspects of our being. She inspires me to embrace the most challenging aspects. I can’t get enough of this woman! Will be ordering her other book, Broken, next

My deep gratitude to Matt for this incredible piece of art. This will be a resource I come back to over and over. From the format to the content, the breath of humanity, authenticity, understanding, and compassion, and the humor! This is an absolute gem of a book that came at a time it was much needed. Such a unique piece. I was inspired shortly after starting this to make sure to check out The Midnight Library, which I equally loved and blew through! Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Matt!
