4 hours of simpering and 30 minutes of kicking ass. Not sure I would have purchased it if I knew.

Worth one credit?
Revisado: 09-12-24
I really wanted to like this story. I was hesitate to use a credit on a book that was just over 4 hours. The performance from the narrator was outstanding. The story, however, was almost infuriating. Classic weakling main character with dreams of being tough for noble reasons and you keep waiting for the coin to flip but it doesn’t happen until the last 20 minutes of the story. I almost quit with 1.5 hours left and requested a refund.
Spoilers:
You spend 97% of the story listening to narration mixed with crippling fear and helplessness until a quickening of dues ex machina level power from the MC saves everyone’s asses. Not after a montage of hard work, determination or cleverness mixed with courage. Just the most useless person ever with semi-noble motivation going from lead brick for 4hrs 20 min to kryptonian wizard of awesomeness for 10 minutes with no reason or foreshadowing whatsoever. Also, the bounty hunter academy tests make no sense. 1. Super chill, Bring me a dead “space rat”. 2. Take this dollar store iron man armor and play capture the flag off a giant robot dragons tail in teams of 5?!?!?
The whole thing reminds me of one of those AI sci-fi story’s that skip back and forth across the line of creative and nonsensical. I’m sorry for the long rant. I know I’m being hyper critical because I wanted to like this story and it sharted all over my enthusiasm.

Historia
Blackbriar Academy is an enchanted school on a magical island, and everyone wants in. It’s a home away from home for the most advanced mages in the world - and only the absolute best of the best are given an invitation. By some freak accident, I managed to get one. If I pass the trials, I get to stay. With nowhere else to go, Blackbriar is my one shot at having a real life, and I won’t let anyone take this from me. But there’s a catch. It turns out the people on this island are being trained to hunt the darkness - basically, they’re being trained to hunt me.

Starts out good. Ends disappointing
Revisado: 08-17-23
Good world building. Great narration. 4/5 of the story is a good read. Toward the end it takes a ridiculous turn where the hero falls into this stereotypical role of a woman that becomes submissive and attached to a character that is downright abusive and hostile to her. Very cringey.

Wasted potential
Revisado: 02-14-23
Dear lord…. Narration is great. Story has promise but is ultimately a chaotic mess. Multiple storylines that are confusing at best. It becomes very difficult very quickly to differentiate between characters. You jump into action that is confusing and partially nonsensical due to a lack of world building that could be excused if there is some back explanation later but it never comes.

The ending…

Great story. However, while I’m a fan of downer endings, this one seemed like a bit of a cheap shot.

Stick with it. It’s worth it.

Great story. Midway I became very frustrated with the characters but it became a essential to their satisfying story ark. Very well written and preformed.

Outstanding piece of literature
Revisado: 04-05-22
You can hear and feel the years of research, uncompromising care and development put into this book. The world built around this story was pain-staked over and the character development is outstanding. The narrator is also a true talent and professional.
Definitely worth more than the cost of a credit.

Potential fades gradually
Revisado: 03-22-22
The book starts with potential. Author and narrator portrays the gloom and desperation in a dystopian future very well initially. However, as the story progresses, the complete lack of the most basic research of military accuracy is annoying at best.
The author seems to try to portray the main character as altruistic and intelligent. However, the main character’s cowardice, weakness and downright selfishness at some points makes her almost detestable.
Eventually, the bipolar and inconsistent actions of many of the characters becomes frustrating. Along with the plot holes and illogical nature of the world the author attempts to portray devalue the the entire story.
