Historia
The setting is the Georgia wilderness, where the state's most remote white-water river awaits. In the thundering froth of that river, in its echoing stone canyons, four men on a canoe trip discover a freedom and exhilaration beyond compare. And then, in a moment of horror, the adventure turns into a struggle for survival as one man becomes a human hunter who is offered his own harrowing deliverance.

Relatable even in 2023
Revisado: 01-23-23
There are many types of men, but the author captures four main types of men in this novel. Especially for men 45 and up I think you'll find this book very relatible and provide greater insight to the characters that the movie did not .

Books are great the Audio compilation has problems
Revisado: 03-05-20
I love the Anne Of Green Gables books and I have enjoyed the various narrators. I liked some more than others. The problem was with the Audio Books collections of the series. I bought the Sherlock Holmes series and listened to that with no problems but this collection has had so many glitches it is not even worth trying to listen. They have it separated into 9 parts. It downloads all 9 parts of the story every time before you can listen to the one part you are on. Sometimes it says the story is ready to play but it won’t open. Do not buy the Anne of Green Gables collection just buy one book at a time and save yourself frustration.

Better and better
Revisado: 12-12-19
Joel ups the ante even more in this epic tail of honor, betrayal, stupendous battles, human and non human frailties. On the edge of my seat throughout. John Lee delivers a beautiful narration giving each character a distinctive voice. Even the female voices are rich with no to high falsettos.

Loved the James Herriot books and to find the audio version narrated by Christopher Timothy who played the role on the BBC series was fantastic. He does an excellent job with different voices for the different characters. Laughed out loud many times and cried a little a few times too. Highly recommend it.

Historia
In upstate New York, in the woods around Woodstock, Dutchman's Creek flows out of the Ashokan Reservoir. Steep-banked, fast-moving, it offers the promise of fine fishing, and of something more, a possibility too fantastic to be true. When Abe and Dan, two widowers who have found solace in each other's company and a shared passion for fishing, hear rumors of the Creek, and what might be found there, the remedy to both their losses, they dismiss it as just another fish story.

Winded and boring
Revisado: 08-25-17
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
My three star rating of the performance probably is in due to the material. The material is written with two characters that have lost their wives so it's mainly from their two male perspectives. Not a lot of verbal variance in the tone here.
What could John Langan have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
This is my first book from this author, and probably my last. I kept waiting and waiting and waiting for the story to take off, but it never did. When the two main characters meet and start fishing together they then learn of a body of water that has a mystery tied to it. At this point I was intrigued and I thought we were going to get going story wise. The problem is that you keep waiting and waiting and waiting and the story never takes off. The mystery is slowly resolved and exposed, but with little action or heightened heartbeat.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Danny Campbell?
I never judge narrators harshly and by that I mean less than three stars, because I blame the material. I totally understand that some audiobook listeners judge the Narrator more important. To each his own I understand. My wife for instance will stop listening to a book because of the narrator alone.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Maybe this novel should not be listed in the horror category? I'm a true horror fan and have a leaning toward apocalyptic type novels. The story to me was not so much about the main characters as the backstory. The backstory is 80% of the novel. Reading the synopsis is really kind of misleading in my opinion. If the backstory is 80%, is it really the backstory?

Worth your time
Revisado: 02-22-17
Very unique take on the ghost and witch genre. While the book is solid throughout the ending was a little weak for me, but I still recommend the book.
I loved the modern take with technology interwoven. The characters were interesting and found yourself caring for them. I also enjoyed that you got multiple perspectives of the situation.
Many of my questions were left on answered and somethings just didn't make sense.
Believe that he watched some of my favorite horror movies from his take on things he added.
