Historia
Seldom does a book have the impact of Michelle Alexander’s The New Jim Crow. Since it was first published in 2010, it has been cited in judicial decisions and has been adopted in campus-wide and community-wide reads; it helped inspire the creation of the Marshall Project and the new $100 million Art for Justice Fund; it has been the winner of numerous prizes, including the prestigious NAACP Image Award; and it has spent nearly 250 weeks on the New York Times best seller list.

One of the most important books of our generation
Revisado: 11-01-20
This book sincerely touched me. She details a civil rights crisis that is not really heralded strongly by either the right or the left. mass incarceration, the spread and impact of prisons throughout the United States, and the opportunities for reform need to be understood and talked about much more than it is at present.

There’s more to the swamplands than meets the teeth. In this supernatural tale of magic and mysticism, Henry Lemarchand grew up in Philadelphia knowing very little of his family—his father disappeared when he was young, leaving behind only a strange pouch of animal teeth. When he is sent to the Louisiana bayou to spend the summer with his eccentric uncle and cousin in their decaying ancestral mansion, Henry learns about his family’s supernatural legacy.

This hilarious, heartfelt, and soaring adventure will delight fans of The Goonies and Indiana Jones. Performed as a 1930s radio drama, it’s bursting with humor for all ages, orchestral scoring, and some of the most talented voices on Broadway. When their ace pilot parents (and adorable puppy) mysteriously disappear over the Pacific, the Flamingo Sisters - Flo, Faye, and Franny - escape the clutches of their evil Uncle Freidrich (who believes girls should never pilot aeroplanes) and join a flying circus.

The Civil War: A Narrative, Volume 1 begins one of the most remarkable works of history ever fashioned. All the great battles are here, of course, from Bull Run through Shiloh, the Seven Days Battles, and Antietam, but so are the smaller ones: Ball's Bluff, Fort Donelson, Pea Ridge, Island Ten, New Orleans, and Monitor versus Merrimac.

Revisado: 04-29-20
nice narration but the battlefield descriptions are a challenge and so I felt the book would be a waste of my time. the personal details are fine but other books go into more detail and are fun also.

Historia
Reporter Sam Kean reveals the periodic table as it’s never been seen before. Not only is it one of man's crowning scientific achievements, it's also a treasure trove of stories of passion, adventure, betrayal, and obsession. The infectious tales and astounding details in The Disappearing Spoon follow carbon, neon, silicon, and gold as they play out their parts in human history, finance, mythology, war, the arts, poison, and the lives of the (frequently) mad scientists who discovered them.

interesting but a little dense
Revisado: 02-08-20
hard to follow at times. interesting stories at first but several portions left my mind wandering. it's a tough subject to write about though. I did enjoy looking up melting spoons of gadolinium. I wondered if the armor bars on "the mandalorian" were gadolinium.

great experience
Revisado: 01-18-20
listened to it with the kids, 8-16 yrs, and they really got into the story. "it was the best" said the 11 year old. "I liked the characters," said the 8 year old. They liked and I liked having music in the story. Some takeaways were "be yourself."

pretty good
Revisado: 12-20-19
I am also a dad who climbs with his kids so it was fun to hear his experiences with Mollie. I could definitely relate. he is a great writer and I really enjoyed his description of multipitch climbs which is not an adventure I've had yet. I love climbing, and that my kids climb. I love that this sport brings a gentle persistent drive into my life. As far as obsessions go, it's not a bad one to have. Climbing with Mollie was a worthwhile, and honest jump into the ever growing world of climbing.
