Historia
This isn't the first time Lucas Fergus has woken up next to the bins outside a bar, but it is the first time he's done so with no memory of the days before. Something bad has happened, but he has no idea what. And things keep getting worse. With a sudden and unexpected change coming over him, Lucas finds himself trapped inside an old english pub with a group of people he doesn't much like. But messing with Lucas is a bad idea, for there is more to him than meets the eye. Soon there will be Hell to pay.

Not quite what I was expecting
Revisado: 01-02-20
Not quite what I was expecting but thoroughly enjoyable despite that.
I thought it was a horror novel, but it's more of an urban fantasy about good vs evil. Devil turned good guy etc.
It's a long story, longer than you would expect to fit into just under 8 hours, you keep thinking it's all over but then ... NO, it just carries on, it did end eventually though, sadly. Lucas is hilarious, although I couldn't help comparing him to Lucifer from the show of the same name. The rest of the team are a rather entertaining bunch too, I recommend that you buy this book and find out all about them.
The narration is fantastic on this one, although Lucas's accent change threw me at first, it is apparently intentional.
I received a free copy of this title, at my own request, and voluntarily leave this review.

Garbage
Revisado: 10-25-19
This is absolute garbage and not because it was sickening, although it is , which is why it appeals, but purely because it so badly written. I cannot begin to comprehend why there are so many glowing reviews for this book.
I listened to this offence to the publishing world all the way through, I do not regret listening, I shall forget listening however, the ending was ludicrous, utterly ludicrous, we are supposed to believe that Mark turns from a normal guy into a raving loony (seriously raving in that he wants to kill the world) just because one girl does not love him back? Yes, she cheats on him, and that was her stupid decision, but to punish the entire world because you can't have the girl you 'love' ... he clearly never loved her anyway, he was a waste of space and she was a stupid girl who should have known better. Just to add that psychopaths are born, not created, so this is where my problem lies, Mark was clearly not a psychopath but torturing his ex has turned him to the dark side.
Also, smashing people on the head with a hammer as many times as Mark did to Rebecca would most likely have killed her, that killed the story for me, right there, just stupid. Badly written drivel.
Matthew E. Berry does a reasonable job with the narration on this one but it does nothing to make the story more appealing.
I would recommend this book to anyone who delights in sickness and does not care about realism or good writing at all.

Great story
Revisado: 10-25-19
This could have been five star all round but for a few annoyances in the story itself, the narration was amazing, perfect for this book and I did thoroughly enjoy it despite the few niggles.
Niggles being, total confusion over the ages of the children, the wife at one point states that she became pregnant and that her husband, Vince, abandoned his old life to study and become an accountant due to this pregnancy, six years ago, but the children are seemingly around 10 or 11 although they behave like teenagers, so this was frustrating as I like to know a little about the characters and these kids were perplexing to say the least. Vince was a bit of an idiot, I didn't care for him much, he seemed to be obsessed with the old theme park of his childhood despite the fact that his wife and kids clearly did not want to visit. The wife, Audra was a weird one, selfish yes, but she clearly loved her kids (of indeterminate age) and did her best by them, except for the time she 'almost' left them. The kids themselves: Tim : The diabetic, who has ''early onset type 2 diabetes'' .... a child will only develop type 2 diabetes if the child is obese and Tim is clearly not obese although he does love candy, what child does not? His brother (twin) : Andrew is a horrible brat who is jealous of his diabetic brother, this is actually very realistic and believable but does not make him likeable in any way.
SO in upshot, I did not care for the author's bad presentation, I did not care for the characters, but did love the premise and the story in general if we exclude the characters, so I would recommend you give this a try if you love the idea of theme park horror, definitely a good listen listen thanks to Joe Hempel .

Historia
As DCI Frank Homes of the Norfolk Constabulary investigates a murder, he experiences terrifying visions of a ghostly black dog. But is the dog real? Accidents happen, suspects pile up, and with each passing day, the case and life gets weirder and stranger. Frank's detective instincts kick in even though he feels he is losing his tenuous grip on reality....something is amiss, horribly so.

A good solid police procedural
Revisado: 10-16-19
This is a good solid police procedural with a side of spooky. What's not to like.
My favourite character has to Spider the dog, my least favourite character was most definitely DCI Frank Homes, he comes accross as loud and obnoxious but he's entertaining, no doubt about that. I did think at first that he'd been transferred to Norfolk from somewhere in Essex but it seems not, it's just an accident of accents.
Aubrey Parsons does a great job with the narration.
I received a review copy free of charge in exchange for my honest and unbiased review. Which is what you see here.
