Historia
October 24th, 2023 will mark 20 years since Concorde disappeared from our skies. Yet still Mike Bannister, the last Concorde Chief Pilot, faces the same questions. Concorde is an enthralling personal account of what it takes to fly planes faster than the speed of sound, and of the events that lay behind 114 needless deaths—the 113 victims of the crash and, ultimately, Concorde herself.

Holy cow! Fantastic story, fantastic author/narrator. Listen to it in one complete sitting.
Revisado: 12-29-24
If Mike Bannister ever finds he needs a job in retirement (and when you get to the epilogue you’ll find that he does not) he could almost certainly find work reading audiobooks for a living. And that’s even before we get to his fantastic story about Concorde. This book is engrossing from the very first chapter all the way till the very end. A tremendous story that really helps both explain Concorde the machine from a man who lived it for over two decades, to the tragic Air France crash in 2000, interweaving his extraordinary career throughout the story. This is a book I would hardily recommend to any aviation enthusiast, particularly any young men or women interested in either aviation or engineering as a career.

Historia
My name is Kvothe. You may have heard of me. So begins a tale told from his own point of view - a story unequaled in fantasy literature. Now in The Wise Man’s Fear, Day Two of The Kingkiller Chronicle, Kvothe takes his first steps on the path of the hero and learns how difficult life can be when a man becomes a legend in his own time.

A collection of an incel’s loosely organized daydreams
Revisado: 12-15-24
It’s hard to appreciate a story that seems like it may never have an ending. This second book in Pat Rothfuss‘s Kingkiller Chronicle, released almost 14 years ago with no sign of the third book forthcoming, does little to advance the story, and makes the protagonist come off as a fedora wearing Mary Sue/incel. While some of the writing that made the first book so popular still shines through at the beginning and the end, the middle of the book is a haphazard collection of poorly linked daydreams as the protagonist stumbles through various misadventures where he learns how to have sex from an immortal fairy sex goddess, and then learns how to fight from a troop of female sex ninjas, before finally returning back to the university. This would be an easier book to enjoy if the middle didn’t feel like an absolute slog, like a movie training montage stretched out for nearly half the movie. I wouldn’t recommend this unless Rothfuss ever actually gets the promised third book published, which seems increasingly unlikely.

A fantastic book that only makes me a little sad that the series isn’t finished
Revisado: 09-27-23
The lies of Locke Lamora is one of the better fantasy novels I have read in a long time. The characters are compelling, the writing is excellent, and aside from a few easily looked pot conveniences the story isn’t grossing. Strongly recommended to anybody who enjoys George RR Martin’s, Joe Abercrombie‘s, or Brandon Sanderson’s work. The narration on this audiobook is also really excellent! Anxiously awaiting the release of The Thorn of Emberlane, The Still as yet unreleased 4th book in the series.

A very easy lesson about a very interesting man
Revisado: 07-16-23
I blew through this book quickly… It is well paced, well written, and well narrated. It’s unfortunate that ADM Rickover never wrote an autobiography or memoir, but this is a good primer on how the man helped to make the modern US submarine service into the vaunted and unmatched force it is today.

Historia
After the Soviet Union proved to the United States that it possessed an operational intercontinental ballistic missile with the launch of Sputnik in October 1957, the world watched anxiously as the two superpowers engaged in a game of nuclear one-upmanship. Amid this rising tension, eccentric physicist Nicholas Christofilos brought forth an outlandish, albeit ingenious, idea to defend the US from a Soviet attack: detonating nuclear warheads in space to create an artificial radiation belt that would fry incoming ICBMs. Known as Operation Argus, this plan is the most secret and riskiest experiment in history, and classified details of these nuclear tests have been long obscured.

Well written and well read this was a wonderfully informative book. A fascinating chapter of Cold War history and the often double-edged sword of scientific advancement. Strongly recommended!

Join the Army and See the Universe. That is the motto of The Third Space War, also known as The First Interstellar War, but most commonly as The Bug War. In one of Robert Heinlein's most controversial best sellers, a recruit of the future goes through the toughest boot camp in the universe - and into battle with the Terrain Mobile Infantry against mankind's most alarming enemy.

This should be required reading for anyone serving in the Armed Forces
Revisado: 06-12-22
Certainly one of Heinlein’s better works, this book absolutely deserves to be on the required reading lists for all of the US military service academies. Often described as timelines “love letter to the military“ the book does a tremendous job explaining the mentality and mindset of ground pounders, or as he describes them the guys whose job it is to make war as personal as a punch in the nose. Strong recommend for anyone serving in either the infantry or special operations communities, or anyone who thinks they might want to.
The narrator reads clearly and distinctly, if not a little slow… Recommend at least listening to it at a 1.3 times speed, if not more.
