Historia
Four years before Nina Totenberg was hired at NPR, where she cemented her legacy as a prizewinning reporter, and nearly twenty-two years before Ruth Bader Ginsburg was appointed to the Supreme Court, Nina called Ruth. A reporter for The National Observer, Nina was curious about Ruth’s legal brief, asking the Supreme Court to do something revolutionary: declare a law that discriminated “on the basis of sex” to be unconstitutional. That call launched a remarkable, nearly fifty-year friendship.

Wonderful listening to Nina Totenberg’s voice about the tender relationship between RBG and herself. I was touched by the depth of all of Nina Totenberg’s relationships.

Historia
Nadia Murad was born and raised in Kocho, a small village of farmers and shepherds in Northern Iraq. A member of the Yazidi community, she and her brothers and sisters lived a quiet life. Nadia had dreams of becoming a history teacher or opening her own beauty salon. On August 15, 2014, when Nadia was just 21 years old, this life ended. Islamic State militants massacred the people of her village, executing men who refused to convert to Islam and women too old to become sex slaves.

A wonderful listening experience
Revisado: 09-26-22
I was captivated from beginning to end. I I have known deaf people and blind people but never anyone who is both deaf and blind. I have always wondered how a deaf/blind person managed. Her stories, her humor, her modesty and humility, her genuine warmth and love of people, all together made this a wonderful listen.

So delightful to listen to Michelle Obama’s voice as she reads her powerful story. A fascinating review of her husband’s and her accomplishments. Interesting insights into what’s involved in being POTUS and FLOTUS. And heartbreaking to be aware of the implications with the current administration.

Historia
Bringing a poetic sensibility to her prose to stunning effect, Lythcott-Haims briskly and stirringly evokes her personal battle with the low self-esteem that American racism routinely inflicts on people of color. The only child of a marriage between an African-American father and a white British mother, she shows indelibly how so-called "micro" aggressions in addition to blunt force insults can puncture a person's inner life with a thousand sharp cuts.

A compelling story about what it means to grow up as a minority in the United States. Any thinking person who does not understand what it means to be a minority in our country would benefit from being educated by this book.

Historia
Highlighting the fascinating link between a child’s neurological development and the way a parent reacts to misbehavior, No-Drama Discipline provides an effective, compassionate road map for dealing with tantrums, tensions, and tears - without causing a scene. Defining the true meaning of the “d” word (to instruct, not to shout or reprimand), the authors explain how to reach your child, redirect emotions, and turn a meltdown into an opportunity for growth.

I love the recapturing of the word discipline from the word disciple meaning to teach. This is a very thoughtful book which gives parents a new way of thinking about discipline and how they interact with their children.
