Where did the likable characters go?
Revisado: 05-24-21
I listened to the 1st two in this series and thought I had found a light mystery series that was mildly entertaing. Then I started this third book. Ugh. I can't believe I acutally listened to six hours but I kept thinkin the story would get better. Nope. Can't finish it. The storyline is awful and so are the characters, even Sunny who I liked in the 1st two books is a simpering, whining, character so far.

Historia
At first glance, the death of media mogul “Big Bill” Argosy appears to be suicide. But his widow, Laila, thinks otherwise. Because Big Bill made enemies - lots of them. And he’d rather fight to the death than take his own life. When the authorities refuse to investigate, Laila turns to the one person who can see connections in the universe where others can’t: Zip Ono, a young private investigator - and practicing Buddhist. Zip quickly learns that there’s no shortage of suspects who might very well want Argosy dead.

Surprisingly engaging
Revisado: 03-08-21
This was a free audible original and I enjoy a murder mystery so gave it a try. I was surprised how much I liked the protagonist private detective Zip Ono and found the plot held my interest. I felt like there was a prequel but couldn’t find any other books. I would enjoy reading more adventures of Zip.
The narrator was okay, just some of the character voices were annoying.

Historia
At the American Academy of Classical Art, popular opinion has it that the school's handsome and mysterious founder, Raphael Sinclair, is a vampire. It is a rumor Rafe does nothing to dispel. Scholarship student Tessa Moss has long dreamed of the chance to study at Rafe's Academy. But she is floundering amidst the ups and downs of a relationship with egotistical art star Lucian Swain. Then, one of Tessa's sketches catches Rafe's attention: a drawing of a young woman in 1930s clothing who is covering the eyes of a child.

UGH... Will the Heroine Ever Grow Up?
Revisado: 06-11-19
I really wanted to like this book. From the summary it seemed to have everthing I would like and it was read by one of my absolute favorites Jennifer Ikeda. I finally had to call it quits at the start of book 2. More than 10 hours into the book I just could not stomach the 10+ hours left. The storyline dragged and I was so tired of Tessa. I kept waiting for the moment she finally showed some emotional growth or had an epiphany and grew a backbone. But it hadn't happened by the time I stopped listening. And Raphael was neither likable or unlikeable, just kind of "blah". Don't waste your time.

Historia
Deor Smithfield had it all figured out. She had a great education, a new job teaching at a good university, and a plan to move across the country to start her new life. Then her body betrayed her, and she seemed to be falling prey to the same wasting sickness that killed her mother. When medical science failed her in spectacular fashion, Deor's grandmother told her that her long-lost father was more than just another deadbeat dad - he was a faerie, and she's a Changeling, half-human, half-fae.

Narrater made it hard to listen
Revisado: 04-04-19
The story line was very predictable and the characters very one dimensional. I'm not sure if the herorine was truly that whiny or if it was just how the narrator made her come across. It could have been an easy, light listen if it weren't for the awful narration. The male voices were horrible, they all sounded like ancient trolls. The echo effect was also very annoying.

Disappointed
Revisado: 03-29-19
I am a huge a fan of The Dresden Files (can hardly wait the the next book) and Peter Grant, The Rivers of London series. So after reading reviews for this series, I was excited to start a great new series. However, I was very disappointed. I found the writing uninspired, the plot thin and formulaic and the narrator irritating. Bummer all the way around.

The Winter Queen of Faerie has manipulated Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden into accepting a case to solve a murder and stop a war between the courts of Summer and Winter that could have literally earth shattering consequences. His own soul is up for grabs. Dresden must dig deep to discover that at time a willingness to accept a little help from your friends, be they a cub pack of werewolves, old loves in sheep's clothing, or a battalion of pizza loving dewdrop fairies, is a very good thing.

Historia
Bringing the magic and suspense of the All Souls Trilogy to a deeply satisfying conclusion, this highly anticipated finale went straight to number one on the New York Times best seller list. In The Book of Life, Diana and Matthew time-travel back from Elizabethan London to make a dramatic return to the present - facing new crises and old enemies. At Matthew’s ancestral home, Sept-Tours, they reunite with the beloved cast of characters from A Discovery of Witches - with one significant exception.
