Historia
When 14-year-old Gayle gets in trouble with a boy - again - her mother doesn’t give her a choice: Gayle is getting sent away from New York to her family down South, along with her baby, José. In a small town in Georgia, there is nowhere to go but church, nothing to do but chores, and no friends except her goody-goody, big-boned, kneesock-wearing cousin, Cookie. Gayle is stuck cleaning up after Great, the old family matriarch who stays upstairs in her bed.

Loved! Loved! Loved it!
Revisado: 07-10-24
I love how this talks about how your decisions effect your life, especially as young people. It showed the importance of family and community. It’s about how our families and our history are part of us. This should be read in classrooms.

I LOVE THIS SERIES
Revisado: 01-23-22
I can see these books being 4 seasons of a great series. I found Black on a hum bug and from there I was hooked! It has action, romance, history, and erotica. The way the stories are written, I can see it.

Historia
Inspired by a true story, here is the riveting novel of a young slave girl's harrowing escape to freedom on the Underground Railroad. The moment Ann Maria Weems was born, her freedom was stolen from her. Like her family and the other slaves on the farm, Ann works from sunup to sundown and obeys the orders of her master. Then one day, Ann's family - the only joy she knows - is gone.

VERY MUCH ENJOYED
Revisado: 05-15-21
I love reading stories of historical fiction or non fiction about our ppl. The story and performance kept me listening. These stories help you to see the complexity of the Underground Railroad and all the colorful ppl that helped along the way no matter their skin color.

Riveting story of love, life, revenge and more
Revisado: 01-08-21
This was such a good story with bits of history and adventure. Not a story of slavery but freedom and fighting to keep it.
