This needed a better narrator

I LOVED so many of these definitions. The ones about my favorite authors and books had me swooning. As a lover of words and a lifelong, deep-South resident, this book is a delight in print. (i read this in both print and Audible formats depending on where I was.) Although I dearly loved reading about my favorite authors and literary works, my favorite definition in this is “mess,” a word,I had just finished explaining that term to someone a week or so ago.
READ this one for yourself. I don’t care if this narrator supposedly grew up in Virginia, he’s not authentically Southern. Our language deserves to be read and experienced in our voice. I wanted to scream every time he revealed his “foreignness” by mispronouncing Tupelo and Mobile. If you’re a Yankee, it will sound authentic. But if you’re one of us, just spring for the hardcover because you’re going to want to keep this one.

This is long, but so worth it.

I really just wish I had listened to the first book before this one. Long, but not one wasted word. Loved the characters, the action, the world! It was all great!

I have read other books by this author and loved them, BUT this one had so much unnecessary repetition. It was like the author had been paid by the word, realized the book fell 1000 words short of that word count, and then repeated words and phrases unnecessarily just to increase the word count. Drove me as crazy as my student’s asinine use of AI to create drivel I’m forced to read through to try to find the imaginary point.

Interesting story…horrible narration surprisingly

All I could think the entire time I listened to this book was this is where Katie Britt got the awful inspiration for her trad wife, creepy-ass, State of the Union rebuttal. That laugh that occasionally comes in to the narration is sooooo fake!

Beautiful story

I love books narrated by the author, but this one went a little slow for me. Jack the speed up if you are ADD and it will be a beautiful, heart breaking ride.

OMG! This is so freakin good!

I HATE vampire books and have quit reading several favorite authors when they experimented with writing one. But this book!!! So hard to put down, such good characters, and this story??? Truthfully, it’s a 4.5, NOT a mere 4.
