Excellent narrator, interesting spy story. My experience has been, “free” audible listens ,USUALLY not worth the time. This was a big exception.

Historia
In 2018, two couples set out on a climbing expedition to Alaska’s Hidden Mountains, one of the last wild ranges in North America. A rarity in modern climbing, the peaks were nearly unexplored and untouched, a place where few people had ever visited and granite spires still awaited first ascents. Inspired by generations of daring alpinists before them, the four climbers were now compelled to strike out into uncharted territory themselves.

Disappointed. Much of
Audio is not about this specific accident. Way too long. Probably a good magazine article. Not a great full length story. Wish I had returned.

Historia
When Aline Griffith was born in Pearl River, New York, in 1923, one might have guessed from her exceptional beauty that a career as an actress or model might be in her future. Few would have imagined that twenty-one years later, she would find herself in Spain as a deep-cover OSS agent, infiltrating the highest levels of Spanish society, or that five years later still, she would marry a Spanish grandee and become one of the most watched, most admired, most fascinating women of international society. This is the story of Aline, Countess of Romanones, a story of courage, beauty and success that is far more exciting than any fictionalized thriller.

I generally enjoy spy non fiction, history etc. This book was just unbelievable. Sort of a good beach listen, but nothing else.
Narrator excellent, too bad the story is beyond belief.

I find a waste of time. This was a major exception. Loved it. Probably will listen to again.
Great story and he does a good job narrating his own story!

Many people dream of escaping modern life, but most will never act on it. This is the remarkable true story of a man who lived alone in the woods of Maine for 27 years, making this dream a reality—not out of anger at the world, but simply because he preferred to live on his own.

Just Ok
Revisado: 12-04-18
Excellent narration. But found the story somehow unsatisfying. Listened to the entire book, not that long. The main character I didn't find very sympathetic, and the author, as several other folks have noted, was certainly obsessed with this story. The ending not very conclusive. All in all a mixed bag. If you want a quick listen with a so so story, but very well read, this would be a good choice.

Historia
If anyone could be considered a Russian counterpart to the infamous British double-agent Kim Philby, it was Oleg Gordievsky. The son of two KGB agents and the product of the best Soviet institutions, the savvy, sophisticated Gordievsky grew to see his nation's communism as both criminal and philistine. He took his first posting for Russian intelligence in 1968 and eventually became the Soviet Union's top man in London, but from 1973 on he was secretly working for MI6.

This is probably my favorite audio book ever. I listen to A LOT of audio books. I have listened to all of Ben Macintyre's audio books and I have always thought John Lee the best narrator. Exciting, easy to follow the plot and the numerous characters, and once again John Lee delivers a flawless performance.. I would plan my day to have time to listen to this EXCELLENt book.

Historia
In chronicling the adventurous life of legendary CIA operative Edward Lansdale, The Road Not Taken definitively reframes our understanding of the Vietnam War. In this epic biography of Edward Lansdale (1908-1987) best-selling historian Max Boot demonstrates how Lansdale pioneered a "hearts and mind" diplomacy, first in the Philippines, then in Vietnam. It was a visionary policy that, as Boot reveals, was ultimately crushed by America's giant military bureaucracy.

I can’t believe I finished this book. I almost “returned” it a dozen times.
A good editor for this story of a very interesting time and individual desperately needed. The author went off on a number of unneeded tangents ( LBJ, Humbert Humphrey , etc). The narrator was excellent, but the story may put you to sleep.
