Historia
There’s chaos in Hollywood at the end of the New Year’s Eve countdown. Working her graveyard shift, LAPD detective Renée Ballard waits out the traditional rain of lead as hundreds of revelers shoot their guns into the air. Only minutes after midnight, Ballard is called to a scene where a hardworking auto shop owner has been fatally hit by a bullet in the middle of a crowded street party.

Keep the politics out!
Revisado: 05-16-24
Wherever you stand on Covid, BLM etc is your view. But I don’t buy these books to hear about it. Keep the woke politics out, and tell a good story.
This one also missed big on the story for me. Not Connelly’s best.

Historia
Tim Kennedy has a problem; he only feels alive right before he’s about to die. Kennedy, a Green Beret, decorated Army sniper, and UFC headliner, has tackled a bull with his bare hands, jumped out of airplanes, dove to the depths of the ocean, and traveled the world hunting poachers, human traffickers, and the Taliban. But he’s also the same man who got kicked out of the police department, fire department, and as an EMT, before getting two women pregnant four days apart, and finally, been beaten up by his Special Forces colleagues.

Entertaining and thoughtful!
Revisado: 03-16-24
Tim’s story is entertaining through and through! I especially appreciate his honesty. We all think higher of ourselves than we ought, and usually learn humility through failure. Tim’s story is no different, and his transparency to his own humanity makes me appreciate his triumphs even more. We’ll done Tim!

Amateurish, vulgar trash
Revisado: 09-03-17
I love detective novels and have enjoyed a large variety over the years, but this one is garbage.
The book was written like a never-ending movie trailer. Every couple lines end with "the best of the best" "the top dogs" "the elite".... It reminds me of the style of writing that comes out of high schoolers.
Secondly, as you get into the book, it becomes constantly vulgar. Graphic details of sex, profanity and so forth.
Not my cup of tea...
If you can't be captivating without being vulgar, you aren't very talented.

Not my favorite Connelly
Revisado: 10-09-15
I am a fan of Michael Connelly, and the Harry Bosch series, but this one fell short for me. the character development was shallow, and the over emphasis of technical detail of the surveillance gear was reminiscent of a bad Tom Clancy dream.
This book may intrigue you if you are interested in Vegas casinos, and surveillance equipment, but I wasn't given enough in characters to feel very committed to the lackluster story.

So far, my favorite Bosch novel!
Revisado: 10-05-15
I have enjoyed all of the Harry Bosch books so far, but this one is my favorite. For some reason, it really seems like Connelly upped his game because everything about this story is a cut above his previous novels.

Entertaining and Spirit inspiring
Revisado: 07-08-15
I left a review for the previous book Soul's Gate as well, and will re-iterate a similar sentiment. The book is at times, thrilling, emotional, spiritual, and an overall encouragment.
It should be obvious, but no, this is not theology, this is a work of fiction. But, from what I have experienced, it does reflect some truths to spiritual warfare, and triumph in Christ.
The book will inspire you to press into things you may have overlooked, or have been taught were only for the church in the days of Acts, but there is more for us to see and do than this natural realm. Ultimately, let yourself be driven into the arms of Christ, and the truth of His word.
Blessings,
David

Fun and inspiring
Revisado: 07-01-15
I am familiar with prayer, spiritual warfare and listening to the voice of God. Though Soul's Gate is not perfectly accurate (jumping into people's souls etc), it will challenge your faith to believe for more and inspire you to dive in deeper into the Lord, and the overcoming life that is in store for you in Christ.

Historia
An activist attorney is killed in a cute little L.A. trolley called Angels Flight, far from Harry Bosch's Hollywood turf. But the case is so explosive - and the dead man's enemies inside the L.A.P.D. are so numerous - that it falls to Harry to solve it. Now the streets are superheating. Harry's year-old Vegas marriage is unraveling. And the hunt for a killer is leading Harry to another high-profile L.A. murder case, one where every cop had a motive. The question is, did any have the guts?

Revisado: 05-22-15
Burt's voice made a good book a really irritating never-ending movie promo. He uses his deep gravelly tone for everything. Dick Hill, who narrated the previous Bosch novels was incredible. I wish he had done this one too.
